First off, I know this should probably be in the KV but, I dont kinow how much attention my post will get there since the KV is super subject-specific. I am having the Buell performance exhaust installed on Friday with the performance air filter. I have posted a topic similar to this but here it goes... I do not have the race ECM and am trying to get around it until the free cash is available. My local HD told me not to worry because they can download new info into my stock ECM. BTW I have an 06 12R. I would appreciate any input on whether or not this is true. Thanks!! ADAM |

That sounds very unlikely to me. The stock Buell ECM and the Race ECM are not usually considered to be programmable, hence the need for the Race ECM, which adds more fuel, and I believe, advances the timing. The bike will run without a Race ECM, but it will run lean, and is not recommended. My suggestion would be wait until you find a Race ECM, then take it to a different dealer, because you will need to have the TPS, (Throttle Position Sensor), reset on their diagnostic computer, and it sounds as though your current dealer might not be up to that task. |

there is supposed to be software in the pipeline for reprogramming your ecm, Al at Americansportbike.com is currently helping with developement, however if I remember correctly the race ecm has twice the computing power of the stock ecm and therefore responds better to reprogramming. Your dealer is thinking it is a Harley. I wouldn't take my Buell there. Unless they are wizards that have figured out how to break into the mapping on a stock ecm. Unlikely but I guess possible. There is stuff coming like Brian has said but the remapping software and key is more expensive(about 350.00) than the race ECM so it's not going to save you any money. I sell the ecms for 188.95 if you want one. DO NOT RUN THE MUFFLER AND A/C WITHOUT DOING SOMETHING WITH THE ECM! |

Race ECM has twice the computing power? That's the first I've heard of this - can someone verify? |

Sometime this week we will be taking the data from a Race ECM and downloading it into the Stock ECM on my ULY using Direct Link. ... I run the "Buell Race Team Only ECM" in our AFM F4 race bike and it runs on MS-DOS. Having seen what that looks like inside the tables, I am not too sure how powerful any of these FI controllers need to be? ... We will know after the down load, dyno run and test ride, using the WEGO system I have installed to monitor the A/F, TP and RPM. ... Terry |

"lean is mean" every production vehicle on the road is already running in a lean condition due to EPA mandates, any leaner and you risk serious damage to your motor, and potentially yourself. So normally you can (barely) get away with the K&N, or an aftermarket pipe, but not both without the addition of the race ecm. Sorry I didn't address that in my previous post. |

Thanks for the business Adam. I am glad to hear it was a parts person that told you they could put a new download in your ecm. Sounds like the service dept there will take good care of you. |
