I shortened mine 7/16", worked out ok. 1/8" may not be enough. |

Sparky: I've got a Triumph Sprint RS and I exchanged my (low, forward, sport orentated) handle bars for a set of Sprint ST (1 1/2" higher, 1 inch rearward, and about 1 inch wider) handlebars and my very first impression was that my bike was somehow more "substantial" i.e. bigger. Funny how such a seemingly small change can make such a big difference. Also, I fiddled around with the position of the rear break lever and was surprised with how much difference a twist or two of the linkage would mean on the shifting ease and comfort. I encourage you to keep on tweaking your current setup and I hope you get as much pleasure from the “final” set up as I have. Keep us posted. You’re an important member of the BadWeB and we all look forward to your next report. |

Anyone had to pay for a 1000 mile service on an XB9R? If so, what did you pay? Jeff |

I paid about $30 for the SportTrans, Mobil1 oil and filter. Did it myself in about 40 minutes; except for the TPS recalibrate which still seems fine at 2800 miles. I do have the extended warranty so it is 100% documented w/ receipts for everything. |

They wanted $230.00 for the 1000 service. So I changed the oil and tranny myself. TPS was left alone seems fine at 1500 miles. |

Yes indeed. They charged me $250.00 for my bolt and $250.00 for my wife's Blast. My salesperson said since we were buying two bikes the first service would be on them. Yeah right. We quickly learned our salesperson told many untruths. |

I test rode a kitted Firebolt at my dealer today. It is worlds away from the tubers. So much so that I had a hard time with it to begin with. For one, you sit very much atop the bike...unlike in it like previous Buells. The clipons are way too high and forward for my tastes (5'7" ). The pegs feel at least 2" higher and a bit forward compared to my S1. The power delivery was very linear...in fact, I thought too linear. It completely lacked the low to midrange punch of a kitted tube framer. It revved noticeably faster...and was deceptively fast...probably due to lower vibration levels and overall "smooth" feel. At lower speeds it turns in easily and readily. U-turns can be done much tighter than the old Buells...but things feel completely different when turning at speed. My S1 tends to effortlessly fall into sharp corners, whereas the XB required a more substancial countersteering effort and body language to do the same. I found it doesn't stand up anymore when trailbraking than other bikes...but it does seem to want to stay straight. I was fighting the bars to keep it pointed in the right direction. Granted, all bikes do this to some degree...but moreso on this one, apparently. The gearbox is great compared to previous Buells, but mine has a custom linkage that works just as good. Clutch effort seemed a little less than the ol' 1200's, but, that's of little importance to me. The fuel injection was almost flawless. It had a couple small coughs when a heavy hand was applied from low rpm...like nailing it from 2000rpm or so. No big deal...as this is not something one would normally do, I would suppose. At decel it kept the motor from compression breaking as much...definitely a cool feature. It's not necessary to blip the throttle as much when coming to a stop. I did notice an occasional pop on decel. The brakes are good. Very good. Easily as good as the S1. I didn't really like how the tank/frame splayed my legs. The thin Buells feel best to me in this respect. It feels more natural to have my legs in closer. As it is, it'd have to really grow on me for me to like it more than my current ride. In other words, I'd have to spend a lot more time on better roads to really get a feel for it. It's a whole new learning curve. As it is, my S1 feels intuitive, while the Bolt feels stubborn in comparison. I'm sure once I learn to wrestle the pig I could get it to move as the amazing bike it has the potential to be. I just don't feel it's for me. I went for a quick solo ride with my girlfriend, and she was definitely spoiled. I guess it's a little better than a passenger-peg-less S1. |

Hogman, I took mine in for service at Austin Buell. They got it last night at 5 and said I could pick it at 4:30 today. Hope this rain stops before I go get it. Did you have the race kit put on at Austin Buell as well? How much difference did the race kit really make in the bike's perfomance? Will it bring wheel up in second by nailing the throttle? |

I just had mine done yesterday and when I picked it up they told me that it was going to cost 173.00. I did not realize that they charged you for your 1000 mile service on Buells. My sportsters was free so I presumed that the firebolts would also be free. I went in there with no money on me and my ride had already drove away. I commenced to bitching and complaining and said that they told me that it would be free. The service manager talked to the sales department and they said someone gave me false information. But , being the good dealership that they were(Baton Rouge Harley Davidson Buell), they were going to cover this one. I came out smelling like a rose. They also installed my new kick stand without me even asking for it. All in all the people over there are pretty Buell friendly! |

I paid around $181 I think for my 1000 mile service. This was supposed to include a dyno run. After I paid the bill, I asked for the dyno sheet and they told me the Bolt wouldnt fit on the dyno. Wheelbase too small. When I asked for a refund for the dyno part of the bill, they said the dyno run is actually included free of charge so they couldnt refund me any money. Not sure how 45 minutes of service adds up to $181. Guess I'm in the wrong business! |

1000 mile service: my garage 3 quarts HD's 20W50: $9.75 Oil Filter: $6.95 Sport Trans Fluid: $5.25 $21.95 before tax I'll take it in at 5K for the TPS and steering head bearing resistance test only. Maybe I'll have my stock sidestand replaced too, if only it were available in chrome... $100 for a Craftsman motorcycle lift and 50 some bucks for the service manual has been well worth it. Got a free dyno run at Casa De Wilson in September (Thanks Aaron!) 75.8 RWHP ChainSaw |

Captain, Yes, Austin Buell did my race kit at the same time I had the 1k done. It was the first one they have put on and I really like the difference it has made in the way the bike runs and sounds. To me it feels like it accelerates much quicker. I can get a small wheelie in 1st running 4500 and rack it open all the way. I'm not a big wheelie person so I really don't know what to gauge it by though. Yeah I was hoping it would quit raining as well so that I can try and get a ride in tomorrow. |

I have had a Heritage Softail, 883 Sportster Custom and now a XB9R all bought new and I have had to pay for all my 1k's on every bike. I have never heard of a free 1K. |

Well, I just picked up my bike from Austin Buell. The 1000 mile service was 178. They didn't have the replacement side stand in stock yet. My bike was in and out in less than 24 hours. It looks great too. They did a great detail job on the bike. Kudos to Austin Buell. Jeff |

Phil Peterson's in Miami includes a book of coupons when you buy the bike. One is for the 1,000 mile service. I used to work for Dade County, FL - official motto: "If it's free - it's for me" |

Has anyone used a rear race stand on their XB9R yet? How would one work without spools. Are they stable enough to allow the bike to idle without falling off. Jeff |

1000 Mile $180 2500 Mile $130 5000 Mile $???? (find out next week) Front tire 149.99 (this is the quote for the tire. How much to they usually tack on for mounting?) Rear Tire 179.99 (this is also a quote for the tire only) I am not really mechanically inclined, so i guess they kind of have me by the balls. |

charles, where were you sunday morning? we had a great ride! sunshine cafe 9:00am on sundays....first time I made it to this deal but definitely not the last. I need to replace the rubber on the back of mine(xb9r) again in only a month! 3500 miles way too much fun. Thank god I know how to conserve the front. I couldn't afford both!!!! now you know why I am always on one wheel. I think the front is just for landings and take-offs..... |

Hey Buell-r's. I finally got around to removing those stoooopid reflectors next to the license plate bracket. I removed the rear one the day I brought it home, but today I was bored, so I proceeded to figger out how to remove the fooking ugly things mounted on the sides. Here's some pic's of the final product minus the reflectors. Jody S. |
