Does anyone ever replace the sealed beams on a XB and if so with what? can i just replace the low beam or just the high beam? a new one is around $50. maybe an aftermarket(Cibie,Hella,Bosh)would be better and for about the same price. |

The right bulb in the first two photos are Silver Star H3 bulbs on my Firebolt. The left bulb is a new PIAA SUPER PLASMA GT-X bulb. The last photo is both bulbs being the PIAA's The PIAA's should be 20% brighter than the Silver Stars and 35% over a stock type bulb. Both lamps on my bike are in the high beam configuration |

Those are the bulbs. H3 is the bulb configuration. The PIAA's are new on the bike, but I have been running the Silver Stars for close to a year. The bulbs still only use 55 watts of electricity. They are just more efficient and give off more light. I assume because they do not consume more wattage then they are not putting out more heat. I may be wrong. Any light bulb engineers out there to shed so light on the subject? |

From www.sylvania.com/ConsumerProducts/AutomotiveLighting/HighPerformance/Silverstar/ FrequentlyAskedQuestions/ "5. Will the higher color temperature cause heat damage? No. The high color temperature of these bulbs is in reference to the light spectrum, not the heat being generated by the bulb. The heat generated by a bulb is referred to as wattage. All SilverStar bulbs are legal and approved for on road use. " |
