So I was going to write a thank you to all of you that recommended Dairyland Ins. to me last week when I received my quote. 24 with one ticket in the last couple of years and it was $1222.10 which is a good savings over State Farm. When I turn 25 in the middle of the year my premium would drop to about $500.

But here is the kicker, I call today to set it up and the lady from Dairyland tells me that even though I turn 25 during the middle of the year, I have to pay the 24 yr old rate for one year and then they will lower the rate. BSBSBSBSBSBS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

She said they have no way to change the rate. I said, that's odd, every other company I've ever been with has been able to adjust on the spot, either up or down as necessary. So it looks like for the time being I'm going to have to let the Farm screw me until my B-Day. F'in people!!!

If anyone else has any other recommendations let me know.

Thanks.

Kilgore

I have mine with Liberty Mutual. I just turned 25 and my premiums are about $50 a month for full coverage during riding season and $12 a month for comprehensive during the winter. They let me switch the bike to basically a non-driver from December through March to save me some money since I'm really not riding during that time of the year anyway. You might check them out. I had good quotes and bad ones. Some companies that were willing to drop my rates after I turned 25 and some that wouldn't. I turned 25 about 3 weeks after I started my new policy. Insurance companies suck.

Shocker, I just got screwed again!!!!!
So I go back to State Farm to go ahead and set up their slightly higher rate for the short term thinking, I'll save in the long run...not!!!!

Not only could I not get the rate down a little, but State Farm also just started not changing the B-day rates on your B-day as of about two months ago but my agent said they just found out last Fri when they tried to do it for someone else.

Time to hit the phones again...

Dairyland all the way. I paid less than $500 a year when I was 23. A year and a half of having it I had a $1200 claim - and my rates still went down (although I did turn 25 during that policy term). A year after that a friend totaled the bike with a $5840 payoff - and my rate still went down when renewal came up. A $1900 claim last year and my rates still went down again.

So they may not be the cheapest up front, but they are still the BEST insurance company. I pay $366 a year for my 04 XB12R and her 92 K75S, full coverage...and I'm only 28.

What bike did you have at 23? I'm shocked to see that you have so many claims, and not exactly cheap ones, and your current rate for two bikes is almost four times cheaper than what I'm being offered.

Insurance BS! Absolutely Ridiculous!

Well as comparison, I just checked w/ my insurance.. I pay $631 for a year on my 2002 X1, and a new XB12Ss (12R would be same they said) would be $692 for the year... full coverage. I am 28 w/ one ticket under my belt... well that is still on my record that is...

hey guys...i have heard that insurance companies also base your rates on your credit rating so the better your credit score the lower your cost. By the way, I paid $617 to Progressive for a year on my xb12r, after having it for two months, i called Geico to check their price and they quoted me $472 for 12 months, needless to say i switched to geico and pocketed the difference, plus gained two more months of coverage in the deal.

I go through H-D insurance services and let them shop it around. They have been good to me, and I have nothing but good to say about them. My 04 Wide Glide on the recent renewal was $522 for a year(with Foremost). My XB12S is $783.66(through Dairyland). I am 41, and FINALLY have a clean driving record (except for a pending alleged violation of the posted speed limit while on the Buell-I was FRAMED!-court date 01/24/06).

I live in Washington State so I do not want a winter rate. I also carry 100/300,000 for policy limits, but the biggest chunk of my premium (on the Lightning) is for underinsured coverage. I could probably cut that out, but having been the victim of a serious auto accident with someone who was underinsured, I choose not to take that risk. As the bikes are paid for, I could just carry minimum liability coverage, but that won't replace my bikes. That said, we do not have a mandatory insurance law for motorcycles in Washington, although if you are in an accident, the State Patrol has statutory authority to have you post a $50,000 bond within 48 hours. We do have mandatory liability insurance for autos in this state, though. In looking at my Buell policy, $198 of the $783 is for underinsured.

Also, in reviewing my notes from when I bought it (the Buell) in June, I wrote down that they said it was considered a "Performance Bike". The initial premium was like $1600 bucks. I remember having a heart attack as I had spent twice as much money on the Wide Glide in total dollars ($23,500 vs. $12,900) out the door. They weren't concerned that I had put the big bore kit, 2.11 cams, Screamin Eagle pipes, etc. on the Wide Glide. But they were all over asking about upgrades to the Buell. I didn't get charged a premium for the Race Kit thankfully!

There's all that I know!}

04 XB12S. I'm 45 years, married, two kids and two cars with Progressive - $245 for one year. I got a quote originally of about $500. Followed up later and it was about $375. When she told me $245 (as I'm driving home with the bike), I was all smiles.

Progressive has usually been pretty good (at least to me). Being responsible, and having a good credit score helps a lot. But car or bike I have to pay the old rate until I renew the policy.

Jak, I had a 1995 Buell S2 (in Red Snap, no less).

Mine is a year-round policy as well - no lapse in coverage during the winter.

I bought my bike while living in S. Florida. The dealer recommended using a particular broker(Peter Lakzo out of Lighthouse Point)that was able to give decent rates. I rode out of there with coverage on the bike for $700 per year. The Company was AIG and does not operate in Virginia where I now reside. I switched to Geico upon moving north and now pay $600 for the year with all the coverages. 100/300 limits, medical, under insured, towing too. 29 years old with a clean driving record and good credit. My Father was just advised to try someplace called motorcycle services.com I think he was pretty happy with the numbers they shot at him. NUTS
