Yesterday was about as good as it gets for an English Winter - watery sunshine and reasonable temps (mid 40s). By lunchtime the roads were dry and before you could say 'Firebolt XB12R' I was booted and suited and out. It was cold so I took it easy for 15 miles or so to try and get some heat in the tyres. Approaching one of my favourite right-handers I peeled off at about 60mph and then had one of those buttock-clenching moments as the front wheel gently headed off towards the kerb. I'm thinking sh*t sh*t sh*t and every nerve is telling me 'keep your goddamn fingers off that brake' but just when I though it was all over, I rolled the throttle back, my line tightened and I made it. A few corners later the same thing happens with the back end so I park up and check. No oil leaks (as if ) but even though my hands are cold the tyres feel even colder. I let a few psi out of both ends and try again. It's better and although the steering is a little stodgy at least it goes where I want it to. Finshed the ride off with no further drama and checked the tyres when I got back. 25psi in the front and 30psi in the rear ! But hey it worked and there was a little heat in the tyres. Worth a try for those of you still riding and not wanting to tippy-toe round. |

Heh! I didn't think of that. A couple of weeks ago, I took a nice corner on my X1 in third and the rear end kicked out. It was cool and all but not really confidence-inspiring. Like a fool, I just slowed down. Too late for me now, we have about a foot of snow to contend with here. It will probably be a couple of months before I can get the toys out again. |
