Gentleman of BaDWeB

Just wanted to share with you all how super happy I am with my 2 week old XB9SX.
My bike has just recently reached 800km’s (currently on 910km’s) so I have only in the last two days been able to take her to the rev range were she drops her timid sound and presence for one that more compliments her aggressive “I don’t take cr@p” stance. Pure joy, not that I need to tell you guys that of course.

Took a ride out with my best mate on one of our local bike “ally’s” (really nice piece of road, smooth, loads of twisties). Custom dictates that all bikers normally meet (at 6amish) at one of the many filling stations and it is here that my mouth drew into a large smile and stayed that way for the remainder of the day. Idling into the filling station, just short of 50 bikers (all piloting “rice burners”) paused in their various conversations in order to get a look at my purring steed. There are VERY few Buells on the roads here in SA, so I can understand their complete amazement at such raw beauty.

Anyhow, my mate and I filled up, had a smoke and head out on the road. My mate rides an 83’ BMW R80, as such the two of us proceeded to take a mellow ride at just under 120km/h out into the open. The scenery is awesome, the road is superb, what more can a man ask for. Every few minutes however my mate and I would get the fright of our lives as a small group of “crotch rocket” pilots came tearing past us, on some or another mission to break the land speed record. So much wasted scenery on their part.

My baby, being shifted on the rare occasion from 5th to 4th and then back again, purring, as if out on the prowl, my smile is starting to hurt.

At the half way point which is located very close to a massive dam, my mate and I pull over for a leg stretch and smoke, again heads turn as we idle into the rest area. Over 200 bikes, one Buell, I say no more.
My smile is getting painful, but I can’t stop it.

We leave, we are half way home on the motorway and then my day gets made. We are sitting at a comfortable 120 again when I notice a headlight in my wing mirror, I think to myself “it’s another missile, move over”. The headlight approaches, and as I expect it tear past me I feel my chest reverberate as the rider downs throttle and his ride slows to match mine, my heart wants to tear it’s way through my riding jacket as the rider pulls his machine right up next to mine. It’s another Buell rider, on a XB9SX, he turns his head and nods, takes his hand off the bars and gives the thumbs up, I reciprocate, and I am in heaven!! He hangs next to me for what seemed ages. He takes one last glance and drops his head down, I see his throttle hand twist and all of a sudden it sounds like the earth is being torn open as he powers away, my pulse shoots through the roof, only a Buell.

It is days like yesterday (and many others) that make life what life is, damn fine!!!

My smile, its still there!!!!

Great story! Had me grinning right along with you. It is strangely satisfying to meet unexpectadly another Buell rider out on the road. Would really dig seeing some photos of your area and your rides. Not many of us have made it to S. Africa I'm thinking.

Thanks again! : )

Will most certainly get some pics for the forum Blake. Going out that way this weekend again. I am on a mission to get up to 1800kilo’s b4 next week Tuesday. She is going in her for her first service and a race kit outfit!!!!!!!
Trying to con the missus to import me one of Kevin’s SS’s….. that will most certainly be a first here in SA.

BuellSA - Also enjoyed your write up and congratulations on your new bike. I second the request for SA pictures of the roads you ride and friends you ride with.

Buellsa, I know the feeling, I just got back from a 350k round trip. I forgot to put the baffles back in my Remus Pipe before leaving and lost my earplugs at the halfway point.....24 hours later I can still hear that beautiful sound at 5k.....however I can't hear anything else....but it's worth it doncha think?

Very nice story Buellsa!!!

That warmed my heart... which is a bit frozen because of the snow we have over here in Quebec.

Bikes are stored for the winter until next March. This is so hard

From the reactions I get when I pull into a gas station you'd think I was driving a delorian that runs on plutonium! Especially when I tell them there is no gas tank on it.. only a "fuel cell."

Can't wait to hear part II of your story. Let us know how the next ride goes!

Oh man, if I didn't know what you were talking about, my eyes would be dry. That is so funny, but so true. Thanks for that!

I have yet to meet another rider on a Buell, on the road--I've met Bake, a bit north of me, but we weren't riding, and I've seen two other Buells in my area, but have met neither owner (one is a yellow X1 Lightning, a very cool bike I've seen parked around town). I was quite disappointed to find out about a local Buell demo ride last summer--after it had happened! (there is no local dealer, this was just the truck pulling into a local hotel with both H-Ds and Buells, I had no idea it was happening, a friend told me he'd seen it the day before).

I do like the exclusivity, but it'd be nice to jaw with a few other owners every now and then "in the flesh" (of course, the local Ducati riders are generally quite interested and knowledgeable).

Angelwild – I do apologize. It dawned on me last night when I was telling my wife about this forum and the posting I made, once again, sorry about that Angela.

Stou – Checked out your profile and that pic of your machine. Dude, those flames rock}!!! I would donate my left nut to science for a paint job like that. I am flame crazy!!! Sorry to hear about the whole winter thing, March, I think I would crack!

Surveyor – What I love is when you pass a cage on the motorway and you can hear the exhaust note bounce off the vehicle and increase in volume for that moment. I am sooooo keen to hear what she is going to sound like with the race kit.

I will most certainly get a couple of pic’s on the next outing.

Buellsa,
No problem..I just didn't want you to think there was no estrogen floating around this board. Hey..if you're willing to give up your left nut, would you donate the right one to make my bike flamey too?? I mean, that is if you're done makin' babies.
HUGS

Buellsa, thanks for the comments about my bike. You don't need to donate your left nut for a paint like that. Check your mail ; )
