I'm riding for an extend amount of time with straight legged jeans and I notice a hole on the end of my jeans. So I ordered some header wrap from ebay. Hole in the jeans is no big deal but I can't imagine it falling on you one day would would be burned really bad. (Message edited by isham on December 08, 2005) |

" I can't imagine it falling on you one day would would be burned really bad." Why would you imagine it falling on someone? |

I was just thinking worse case. Your taking a turn hard right side, you slide and it lays on you. I wouldn't have bought the wrap if I didn't think of what that would have done to my skin. |

How are your jeans coming into contact with the pipe? |

Yeah... seriously, I'm 6 foot 5 inches tall (so I have long legs) and I have yet to hit the pipe(s) on my 03 xb9r. But then again... I don't ride track either, just roads for me. |

I'm really not sure. Maybe when I was leaning to the left the flap just layed on the pipe and it burnt a hole. I'm not riding with tight jeans and cowboy boots... |

I worry more about what the pavement is gonna do to my jeans. They won't let you wrap that. Reminds me of a story...Was getting a P.O.S. Chrysler Cordoba inspected in Connecticut by the DMV and there was a crack in one of the side mirrors. Guy says, "You're going to have to replace that mirror." I said, "Why?" So he says, "You could kill somebody with that!" I looked at him dumbfounded and said, "I could kill 'em with the ' bumper too, you want I should take that off?" Bastard failed me. I had to drive 20 miles to another DMV office and get it inspected the same day with the same cracked mirror before I passed. |

well, just because I am from New Hampshire... don't mean that I ride with tight jeans and cowboy boots. lol. I like my jeans on the baggy side, not as bad as JNCO jeans... but "baggy" cut and I wear sneakers most of the time, cause i just go back and forth to work. But yeah, now that you all have visions of me and what I wear, I think I'm gonna go now b4 I describe the patterns on my undies. (Message edited by 2vulgar on December 08, 2005) |

i have the same problem.i don't wear supper baggy jeans when i ride. usually carpenter cut jeans. when i am waiting at a light my pants actually get burned on the muffler, if i don't remember to put my right leg out a little further. yes i am vertically challenged, 5'6". so i really don't have that much room to move my feet around on the ground. brian |

Before I learned how to ride by leaning off the bike I melted my spandex on my racing leathers. I don't know if I did it while warming up the tires or riding hard on the track. Bad thing was it was the first ride with my new leathers. LOL I had a local shop put a big leather patch on them and they are good as new now. LOL |

I've often wondered why the xb exhaust pipes needed to be routed the way they are, seems to me they could've taken a straight shot down to the exhaust can instead of wrapping around the right side of the engine and joined at the front.. |

>>>>I can't imagine it falling on you one day would would be burned really bad. I learned about riding, and the perils thereof, with a Honda CL77 305 Scambler lying on my bare leg. I knew, at that moment, that I did not want to do that again. I possess, for those of you new here, a keen grasp of the obvious. Buells are specially engineered, in the event of an accident, to pitch the rider well clear of any potential contact with hot surfaces. Many of us have proven that irrefutably. Course, darn few of us INTENDED to prove it and in my last "demonstration", I maintain to this day, I was pushed by Ferris whilst I was giving him a riding lesson.

Maybe it has something to do with the highway pegs you installed. JK |

I burned my leathers by not sticking my knee out. I was sticking my knee forward and hugging the bike with my legs while leaning into right hand turns. That is how I burnt my leathers. LOL |

There are several benfits to wrapping your pipes other than preventing a leg burn. The summer heat is a big one, a little bit of HP gain is another. Plus it gives your bike attitude....Charlie |

Brupska, I bet ya don't do that any more! Similar story... I removed the heat shield from the read header-pipe on my Cyclone and promptly burned a hole through my Joe Rocket Ballistic riding pants. I had perched my feet on the rear pegs for a while. That position put my right knee right on the reader header pipe where, if I had left it alone, the heat shield would have been. D'OH! Won't do that again! Have since wrapped the headers as I prefer that look to the heat shield. |

What the heck at JNCO pants? I must be getting old. Don't want to burn your pants? Wear leathers, you should be anyway. |

Reminds me of the funny story someone here shared last year. His tech at the dealership bent down to look at the motor and pressed his forehead up against the hot headers. Whoever it was here asked the tech what they thought, and the tech replied, "don't do that $@!# again." funny as hell. Dude probably grew a third eye socket after that snafu. |

UHH, anybody ever seen chaps with an a-s-s in them? That would be called leather pants. Side note, on my '01 X-1 I had the Force pipes and I was wearing a pair of nylon (I call them fire pants because fat people burn them by swishing around) anyways, my pants had the tinge of black around the hole, so I know it was from fire and headers, because the hole wasn't there when I left. |

I have a slight melted spot in my right leg of my riding pants. I never did find out how I managed to touch my pipe. It didn't leave a mark on the pipe and it didn't happen again in the three years since. I know it didn't happen on the ironhead since I'm a tall fella and my knee goes over the aircleaner. |

Glitch, Still cant imagine? I got my headerwrap and installed it on my bike. Looks awesome. I didn't think to wear gloves and my hands were itching imediately afterwards. So i decide to take the bike into work today and I'm getting some smoking from the pipes. Is that natural? Does the wrap melt itself onto the pipes. |

Is that natural? Yes, and it smells nice too don't it. Does the wrap melt itself onto the pipes. No. Still cant imagine? I can , I've just not had that problem. |

Even though it is too late now, I have heard of people dipping the wrap in water then wrapping the pipes. It cuts down on fiberglass dust. I did the headers on my Camaro dry with bare hands too though. It itched a bit, but was worth it! |
