What I really want to know is, what do you think the diffrence is? How big of a diffrence is it. I have to make a desicion, 12s vs 12Ss. From the day I saw the 12s I was attracted to the tight athletic curves, like a little female Romanion gymnast, I thought this bi-ch is a spinner that I can through around anyway I want and bounce back. I have a few months or as long as it takes me to decide. Think about it though, is the factory going to make both of these models forever, or is one going to be disappeared eventualy. I would "guess" that the master plan would be to keep the R on a short wheelbase (Carver)and the Ss will be the more upright and relaxed (street fighter). Right, wrong, good, bad. What do you think. I'm 5'11 about 230lb. Live in central Florida with not that many curves, except the ones at the intersection of every street, but I dragged parts of my old Z1 a fxdp on every one. THe Ss is a more relaxed machine compared to the S. I have a XB9S and did a XB12Ss demo ride at "Braging the Rockies" this summer. The Ss was slower steering and took more force to steer. Big difference in feel but it could just be my familiarity with my bike. The Ss would be great for Florida. | ||

I can GUARANTEE you will like the Ss. I say this time and time again, but I owned a 12R before my Ss, and I have the tires wore farther on the Ss. I think possibly I am more relaxed on the Ss because of its length and I sit upright more. I guess it depends on how tall you are. Oh yeah, and another good thing about the Ss is fuel tank mileage. S= 135, Ss=185. 'nuff said | ||

I have a XB9SX and I love it. But I tried a Ss a few months ago and really like that bike. It's more comfortable and more stable on the rode. On rough curves, my SX is not as much stable as the Ss. And with your 5'11" and 230lbs, the Ss will fit you better. | ||

I love my Ss too! I'm 6' tall and it fits me perfect. With the mods I've made, it looks every bit as lean and athletic as you could want. If you come out to Tampa, you can demo mine. Later, TK | ||

If I could only have one bike it would be the longer wb bikes (Ss or Uly). I suspect the longer wb platform is the future. I love the short wheelbase bikes, especially for city riding and sport riding. But it has limited applications. M | ||

I would concur that the longer bike is probably going to be the future. However, these bikes can't remain in their current configuration without something extraordinary to motivate sales. The SS is not going to out handle a Firebolt of which there is no long version. The SS offers more comfort for larger riders but it doesn't add improved geometry, just relaxed geometry. It's more of a lateral move than a genuine improvement. So what's the motivation for plunking down 11+K for one other then being different or having some sort of emotional bond to the brand? Granted, we are sold on Buells but let's face it, they don't sell. At the asking price of a Buell they will remain a fringe player until they can round out the offering a bit more. The Uly is a good start | ||

Buellshyter makes a good point. When I was shopping for a sportbike my budget was $10,000. I could have had all sorts of faster bikes for that money. In the end I bought what I thought would be the most unique, even though I had to come up with an extra $2500 to do it. I just wish the Ss would have come out sooner. I'd trade my R for the Ss right now. Case in point: I just returned from a weekend trip (350mi on Sat and 350mi today) and my crotch is killing me. | ||

I would like to thank everybody for quick their responses. I think as I suspected the Ss is going to be the one. almost bought an X1 untill the first XB came out, then got tierd waiting for the 12 and bought an fxdp and tried to make in to a streetfighter, but a few thousand into it and several thousand from compleition I decided the XB was the way to go. Thanks for you input on the Ss.  | ||

Well I just got my Uly and the long wheel base is good. I love the way it handles and the comfort is awsome. I have a Blast also and love the Uly. |
