So i was wondering if anyone has a set of the clip-on style bars that are offered through americansportbike.com and if so, how do they feel? I was thinking about getting the 7 down angle that moves the bars 3" down and 4" forward.. i think. |

I'm sure there are archived lengthy responses in the Knowledge Vault. Try searching for-"Crossroads XB bars" .NUTS |

Thanks for the heads up! These darn Buells! That's the infamous Gixxer Killer Curve I was telling you about. It's so hard to go the posted speed limit up there. If it weren't for my tank bag I could have gone a little faster, and a little lower. But I'm the camera guy, if New12r hadn't offered to take a picture with my camera I'd not have these. |

ok, for all of you that have the straight or clipon bars on a s, or even a SS like I have just purchased, I only have a few hundred miles on my new 12SS, I love it, I can already tell a major difference in handling between my BMW K1200RS, and the XB, I love it, I feel like I am sitting straight up on the XB, and I typically feel more comfortable forward, but the BMW has another 20 inches of wheel base, and I am a large person 74" 260+. I would like to put the straight clip on on the bike, but I am concerned with a couple issues and I would appreciate any and all input. First, I want to learn the bike before I modify it, for example, the local dealer tells me that banking into a turn, I don't bend the inside elbow and lean into the turn, the bike is designed more for a centralized body position, this is contrary to what I have learned for 20+ years of sport bike riding, cruisers, that is fine, but I am waiting to see. Second, if the "centralized" position is what the bike needs, when I put the clip on handlebars on I am seriously moving some mass forward, and it could totally change the handling dynamics of the XB.... Help!!!! I am in Idaho, and with the snow and sand on the roads, if I do get to ride it will be very mild rides just trying to get miles on the bike and not pushing. I would appreciate someone giving their humble opinions of my feeble thoughts... |

Are the forks straight tube or is there a taper - this would answer the clip-on question because I know a dozzen different sources for clip-ons if the tubes are straight - if straight - Telefix PROFI CLIP-ONS - 4 way adjustable and also height adjustable up to 2 1/4" if you buy the extra spacers - which could be applied to any of the joints for even more adjustability around obsticals, or the easy approach I am considering is the Laverda adjustable Clubman bars - 4 way adjustable like the Profi but they mount like regular bars. Profi link - see clip on/chassis section: http://specii.com/index2.html Laverda (Jota Bars) - available in Black or chrome link: http://www.busters-accessories.co.uk/search.asp search - type in jota bars - lol GT - JBOTDS! Rackman, I imagine it was you that I talked to at High Desert the other day. Great to see that you went with the SS instead of the Streetrod. I actually ordered new bars for my bike tonight, I'll let you know what I think when I get them on. BTW, I hang off the bike big time and it handles great, so I don't know what they are talking about. |

A minor detail, but the original poster asked about clip-ons. The Crossroads for XBs aren't really clip-ons in the traditional sense. They have a big plate to which the bars are attached. Crossroads also offers 54 mm race clip-ons for much cheaper. To make them fit, spacers (about 1 inch) must be placed behind the instrumentation. The crossroads race clips are the only ones I have found that can be used above the top triple clamp. Matt (Trojan) can give a more detailed description of the process. |

EZ, The distance from the top of the forks to the top of the upper clamp is very small. Most clip ons would require you to raise the forks up the trees to fit them. This obviously would make a squirrely handling XB. You could mount any number of clip ons under the top tree, but that would prove to be brutal on the wrists. |

None are large enough last I checked. Not much if any clearance between forks and bracketry there either, at least on the XB9S. |

Guys, If you enjoyed that picture, check out the video that it came from. Blake was kind enough to put it here: Keith does a Lightning Lap Around OHR, with Steve899 as chaser fast guy with camera. I'm not sure how to set up the link so just cut and paste the address in your web browser. You'll see me botch some of the corners but it is still fun. You can download it to your computer in about 20 minutes or less with dial-up. Blake also comments on how to set the graphic equalizer to help diminish the camera bike's engine so that you can hear the Buell a little better: "In Windows Media Viewer, enable the graphic equalizer ("View - Enhancements - Graphic Equalizer" then starting from the left, max out the first four sliders (all the way up) and minimize the remaining six (all the way down)." Enjoy! Keith Blake fix hyperlink. (Message edited by Blake on December 06, 2005) |

BS, Trust me, no one needs to be telling Steve899 how to get around OHR. Its tough to force yourself to shift when you know just a split second later you'll be downshifting three gears and braking hard for all you're worth. Sometimes there's just little time, lots to do, and bouncing of the rev limiter is the quicker or at a minimum the least stressful way around, at least for a veteran expert racer on a GSXR600 racing machine. |
