just finished changing the fluids (motor, trans). my dealership didn't have a service manual in stock, but it's ordered. i changed fluids using info found in the search function. two questions: 1: should i be worried if there are shavings on the drain plug to the trans, or is a little normal (mine could be considered just a little over normal)? 2: didn't really see the clutch spring that everyone was talking about, but i did drain with the bike upright and refilled with exactly 1 bottle of gear oil. am i good to go? i just purchased the bike so that was the reason for the rush on changing fluids without the manual. i really feel uncomfortable riding when i'm not sure if the oil has ever even been changed. it's an '04 xb12r. thanks for any speedy responses. |

your fine. a little bit of metal shavings are normal. 1 quart is good. i would recomend you use the harley formula plus in the primary. good stuff. now get on your bike and have a good time. |

Scary metal shavings on the tranny plug are normal. Some people think it's the chain wearing. One quart will do it. The spring is cone shaped, not a coil spring. Have a good ride. |
