What function does the TPS serve other than controlling the exhaust valve? |

Throttle position sensor: one of very few inputs for the ECM on the XB. Critical for fuel injection. |

Ok, next question. Do I have to reset it when I replace my battery? |

No TPS will is in the ecm like if you take it out to put in a Race ECM the TPS will still be stored in the old ECM even if its years later |

Now I'm confused. Is the TPS a physical thing, or just a setting within the ECM? |

Both. Physical that sends a signal to the ECM, the ECM needs to be told what 0 is for the TPS. |

the ECM retains the TPS setting without bettery power. the simple and complete answer to your last question is "NO" |

To all the that have been around here a while I have a question, is there any way I can reset the tps using a fluke meter. The signal it sends to the ecm is just a resistance number on how open the throttle plate is right? Just asking because that is how I used to set my tps sensor on my turbo talon. |

Not that I'm aware of. I use the technoresearch software. Somehow the ECM is being calibrated to the position of the TPS. It's not simply adjusting a POT. DAve |

Cmm213: the answer is "NO" Techno-research sell a set of toys with which you can zero the TPS value stored in your Buells ECM. cost is quite reasonable. DAVE STEUVE can set you up. |

Thanks guys thats what I thought, just wondering. I think I might get the software because I like to learn how to fix things myself. Plus I miss tinkering with stuff like that since my other toy is gone. One should be able to keep a buell in tip top running condition when you learn the program. |

The software is relatively easy to use, and TechnoResearch is very good about helping troubleshoot any trouble you have. Daves at Appleton HD/Buell carries the package. Re-zeroing the TPS takes about 15 minutes, and most of that time is waiting for the bike to reach 270 degrees to set the idle. |

The procedure for resetting the TPS using the Technoresearch SW is in the knowledge vault here: http://www.badweatherbikers.com/buell/messages/3842/142751.html?1129923603 Al |
