Just wanted to let everybody know that I have been lurking here for a few days and decided that this is one of the better Buell forums on the interweb. So I decided to register. I picked up my first Buell at a Suzuki dealership in Ohio last week. They really didn't know what to do with it and I was on the lookout for another twin since my Honda RC-51 was stolen. I decided that instead of getting another Ricky Racer full fairing sport-bike, I wanted to do something different. I pretty much narrowed down my choice to an XB style Buell, or a Suzuki SV-1000. After checking out the XB at the Suzuki shop, some stiff negotiating, and complaining that it made soo much noise, and there must be something wrong with it, the 2004 Buell XB12S was mine for $4600 out the door. The Buell now joins my 2004 Suzuki GSX-R1000, and 1981 Honda CB-750F in the garage. I have to say that I really haven't enjoyed riding this much in a long time. There is just something about this bike that puts a smile on my face. I am 22 years old, and work as a mechanic at a Suzuki/Yamaha dealership outside of Memphis, TN. The second I got my Buell, I took it home, tightened the primary chain to spec and alot of the noise went away. I also switched over to Royal Purple 75w-90 in the primary, and Mobil-1 15w50 syn in the motor. This thing still shifts like a tractor (compared to my butter smooth GSX-R gearbox) and sounds like somebody dumped a bunch of nickels in the motor. However, it's an absolute blast to ride. It pulls tall wheelies with ease, and its turn in when the roads are twisty is very confidence inspiring. It's a totally different, somewhat more crude, ride that my Jap inline 4's and even the RC-51, but Erik Buell definately did something right with these machines. | ||

Welcome to the Buell world. A year ago you could not have gave me a bike that had anything to do with Harley but when they came out with the X I was somewhat impressed. Got such a good deal that I decided to give it a try. Now I would not part with her. You might want to try 15-50 Syn-3 or Amsoil in the primary. It might make some difference. Welcome... the Buell is what got me back into riding more often, its just so much dang fun. "sounds like somebody dumped a bunch of nickels in the motor" LOL - yeah, I agree... I'm still new to my XB, and I swear there's something loose rolling around in there... but it runs like a beeyatch that's for sure. | ||

Welcome. Let you in on a little secret. The more you ride and get acquainted, the more fun it gets. These things are such a hoot. I also have a rice burner. And it too is a great bike. But there is something all together different and unique about these things. Great negotiations on the price | ||

Hi ya Redstar11, Welcome to Badweb and the Buell Family, can't agree with you more about the confidence building, I reckon it actually makes me a better Rider than what I am! Was a two stoke rider, never thought you would get me anywhere near a Harley, but after being two up on the XB12S I soon changed my mind!!! Went out and got a Moto Guzzi because it was V-Twin to prepare for the XB12S. Opto, my husband rode it and said it was rough enough to give me a good education. (He wasnt wrong Hee! Hee!) Finally when his Uly arrived I got on the XB12S, never got on the Guzzi again, and I am totally Buell. Have fun, Be Safe and Stay Upright, Bindy | ||
