Woodcraft has a really nice padded rear stand that is very stable and heavy duty. I think I paid around $110 shipped for it, great deal. I have an older pit bull rear stand for the non-spooled swing arms. When I tried to use it on my XB12Ss the swing arm was just a hair too wide. Are the newer Pit Bull stands wider than the older ones? Are the SS swing arms wider than the standard swingarms? I am thinking of grinding just a bit off the stand with a dremmel to get it to fit. Okay, after looking at the pitbull website I feel like an idiot. How does the stem stand not hit the body work when lowering or lifting? Also what is a spooled or non-spooled swing arm? Dave, I assume you have used these with no problems on an XB12R??? Thanks in advance from a real newb... | ||

Brucen, Pit Bull makes a wider rear stand that work fine with the Buells Jak, Yes, it will work fine Low versions(XB12SCG and XB9SL) have some clearance issues for the front fender | ||

Ok then I'm interested but it might be a mid winter purchase. I can't put too much on the wife or I risk a certain and gruesome death. Well, I at least have to wait until she picks up her LV purse which was part of my deal for the bike. Still need help understanding spooled vs. non-spooled though. Anyone? | ||

FYI, the Lockhart-Phillips 'universal' rear stand will work with the XBs too, I'm still using my old one. I'd like to save up for a set of Pitbulls for the long haul though. Tough stuff. Jak, take a look at a racebike on a rear stand, you will notice two little 'knobs' or 'spools' protruding from the swingarm that the rear stand uses to lift the bike... a non-spooled stand just uses little 'L' shaped brackets that lift from under the swingarm. hope that helps. | ||

Thanks Tpeone, I figured it would be something completely obvious. So can I put spools on my XBR? I was also looking at pictures of the XB9R race bike(ProThunder) that had frame sliders, but I don't understand how they attach to the frame without doing damage. And what brand type sliders are people using? Any help on that one? I love this site.  | ||

Use the factory frame sliders. Axle sliders from Dark Horse Moto or American Sport Bike. Rear passenger peg sliders from DHM too.  | ||

The frame sliders on the race bikes are bolted thru tabs that have been welded onto the frame. Not an easy or cheap task. Yes, you could have spools welded on your swingarm but I would just get the stand made for your bike and not worry. I sell the Darkhorsemoto swingarm sliders and I do have a "racer" version that has spools machined into them. The problem if you use them for your stand is since they mount thru the axle you can't take off your wheel. I run them on my demo but I use the regular non-spooled stand. LSL makes frame sliders but I do not recommend you use them, they just don't mount solid enough to prevent damage and will probably add to your damage by either breaking the front motor mount/head on one side and tearing out the primary cover bolts on the other side. The Buell frame pucks still seem the best answer. They are inexpensive, the new style will be 44.95 thru me. Put the DHM swingarm and front axle sliders on it to protect those parts. | ||

i don't want to hijack but... regarding the frame sliders, i'd like to go with the full carbon covers at some point. do you guys think they work as well as the stick-on Buell ones? seems to me they would. | ||

Cmm, I think you'd be alright using the Pit Bull stand. I use my bike jack that lifts on the muffler but I don't see a problem with using the Pit Bull. Hkwan The rear stand is 116.10 shipping will be about 15-20.00? It's a big box. | ||

Dave, do you have the rear in stock? It will accommodate the XB-R's width for sure, correct? Is it just the pad style or you can flip it over and have the spool adaptor as well so I can use on other bike? How wide is it measuring from the inside of the arms of the stand? Hi all.. this thread has been helpful... Thanks! I'm noob to my XB and to servicing it...have the manuals. Sounds like the pit-bull stands are popular and there are other options. My questions is... since I don't have anything... What do you all use the most?? What's a good basic set up for most work? What should I get? A front and rear stand to start? Or a rear and a jack? Do you ever work with the bike on the sidestand, or is it standard procedure to put it up on the work stands, then go to town. Thanks all! |
