Advertised as a 2003 XB12R engine. Looks like a nine to me. Somebody educate me. I asked the seller about it and he seemed indignant in response.

That's a XB9 motor. XB12 are magnesium color.

Yep, black cases = 9....

...unless someone went to the trouble of changing the cases.....doubtful.

wrote him a note: "would like some more information on the model of cycle engine you have in posession. are you quite certain that it displaces 1200 cc? according to my sources at Buell Motor Company, they don't recollect building an XB12R for that model year. is there some confusion or is it possible you are mistaken?" see what response i get.....

pretty certain that my 2004 XB12S was the first year that model came out, although it is possible someone could be confused by the build date, which was july '03

FIRST I SENT HIM THIS EMAIL "this is a motor from a 9. the 12's didnt come out until 04 and they have a magnesium case. all the 9's have black cases. it is a 984 cc motor not a 1203cc motor."
THEN I SENT HIM THIS EMAIL "ALL THE 12'S HAVE AMBER WHEELS. DID YOU PAINT THEESE?"
I THINK WHEN ALL OF US BADWEBBERS STARTED WRITING HIM, HE GOT SCARED STRAIGHT.
