Does anyone know if someone makes a nice and absurdly bright HID kit for 9s? |

You might want to check the heat output on these lamps. The Buell head light and lens melt quite easily, and more light often,(but not always), means more heat. A satisfactory intermediate step that I have taken was to replace the stock bulbs with PIAA H-7 StarWhite 55w.They are brighter and whiter than stock, but are the same wattage, and don't seem to be damaging the headlights or lens after a couple of months use. |

got mine at xenondepot. illegal in the USA, so shipped from ontario i think. if you ride all night then you need one. only useful as a low beam, and must be wired to stay "on" all the time, ie NOT shut off while hi beam is operating. my lighting setup punches a pretty good sized hole in the dark. The PIAA auxilliaries are wired through a relay, to the hi beam circuit, and contain a 55 watt H3 element apiece. my hi beam is a PIAA superwhite H7, they only last around 250 hours, but have pretty effective illumination. the HID low beam throws a bit more light than the other three lights combined. the overall effect is real helpful out in the country at 2:00 AM |

HID's typically run cooler that typical filament bulbs. |

Hellas ,complete, might be something that could be fitted. Putting HID elements in a non HID reflector and lens combination is problematic. Fullpower, You have done exactly what I think I want to do as well. the small PIAA's I am guessing are 1100X lights, it appears that you used a snap tie to attach to the forks, I am guessing the relay you used was from Cycle gadgets, is there a reason that you have wired to come on with the high beams versus the low beams? I believe that relay could be hooked into the turn signal cancel switch (in my BMW that is the way I have it wired) I am not familiar enough with the LIghtning to know for sure. I don't want to tear it apart until I have a better feel for what can be done cleanly. I also like the idea that you keep the low beam on while the high beam is on... Can you either pm me or share here as to how you have modded the wiring to facilitate that change. I would appreciate the help. Thanks Rod |

on the lightning there are (2) EXTRA FUSE POSITIONS in the box under the seat, pretty easy to wire one of them to the switched power fuse from the key switch relay. you will need 2 inches of wire, and recommend soldering it. now you have a switched hot fuse, run a piece of well protected 14 gauge up front to the low beam, or HID ballast. use plenty of CHAFING gear, or at least some heat shrink to protect the wire. my PIAA lights are the 004x models, they came with a small relay. i wired them to the high beam because the high beam was so inadequate by itself, and also that way i did not need any additional switches to mount or activate. very simple the low beam is ON, stays ON when ever the ignition is ON, and the high beam switch turns on my regular high beam, and the auxilliary lights. |

Full Power, Thanks for responding, sorry, I have more questions, what do you do with the HID ballast? According to Xenon depot, the system is plug and play, my knee jerk is yea, but what do you do with the stuff... Which did you purchase the 4800, 6000, or the 8000 version? if you were doing again which would it be? Thanks again Rod |

for absolute certain, buy the LOWEST color temperature available. the higher the "K" number the LESS light output you get. i think i remember getting the 4500K and i t works very well. ballast and ignitor fit easily behind the fly screen. |

I was thinking of doing the low beam always on re-wire and this is what I came up with in my head...Run a full time fused hot wire from the fuse box to a relay, tap off of the hot wire from the high beam to trigger the relay and then go back to the low beam pos wire to keep it on while the high beam is on. I liked this idea so there is no extra amperage draw thru the hot circuit (relay amp draw is minimal) and also then the low beam will still turn off while starting leaving more amperage for the starter and also kinda like the light shutting off, like she is winking at me. This is the only time I wish I had an R so the Fuse Panel would be right there by the head lights and I wouldn't have to Run a Pos wire all the way up, that will be the Hardest part of the whole Project. ( Sorry Electrical Engineering nerd coming out) |
