From one CAD jockey to another - congratulations on a really great, well thought out design. The entire lower guard assembly comes off with four #27 torx bolts that are easily reached. No other parts need to be removed. It took me a minute to get it off. Anyone who has struggled with the typical XB belt cover will really appreciate this one. The minimal top belt guard is a part of the rear hugger and also comes off easily. To loose the guard and keep the hugger though, you will have to cut the guard part off. I've got a new hugger / guard coming from Daves to hack on ($20).

Now for the harder question. I know the belt is nearly indestructible, but I often travel on gravel roads here in Jersey. Is it really that bad to run without the guards? I really like the way the Ss looks without them.

Glad ya getting off on the Ss....I have been running my R since last year with all belts removed..Looks Mechanical and sassy...No plms. Yet and to tell ya the truth my belt looks as good as the day I took del. of it ..back in April of 2004 and 26000 klms. later LoL For what thats worth to ya...MY warranty sort of speaking is up in April 2006 And have been trying to blow that belt up to get the "New" belt for it under warranty no luck yet...Might have to get the box cutter out to help it along lol...

Hey Jersey,

I've been running mine without the lower as well and I think it looks great too. I just painted the screw heads frame grey and they disappear. I was wondering how much a rear fender ran to hack on...thanks! I was thinking of just following the line up from the upper belt-guard, and then shortening the rear fender following the line that goes around about an inch from the trailing edge. Just to show a bit more tire. Post pics of whatever you end up doing.
Thanks,
TK

I've ran my '03 without belt guards since new.
Belt looks good, bike looks great.
And this is with the "weak" stock '03 belt. 5000 mi.

Hey hogs, I am just curious if you have problems riding that bike of yours with no belts at all?

Tommy, I'm going to cut mine like you said. Great idea on the screws. I was going to put stainless button heads in mine. I'm going into my shop to install a new Drummer on a friend's bike this morning and I think I'll cut my belt guard if I have a little extra time. I'll take some pics.

Gs - I tried that once - the bike just wouldn't go with the belt laying in the street. Besides that the old geezer's pants might fall down.
