Is there any such thing as a cable that will adapt a 4-wire O2 sensor to fit the O2 sensor input on the XB?

I believe I know what you are getting at, and yes, you could use a 4 wire sensor, but honestly, there is no reason to. The 4 wire means it has a sensor wire, a heating element + & - wire, and a dedicated ground wire. The output from the sensor is the same, only the heating element gets the sensor up to normal operating temperature faster, and keeps it there during slow speed and idle conditions, as well as making the sensor a bit more consistent in its reading, for fuel management issues. The factory ECM only uses the sensor's inputs, for any purpose, at sustained cruise speeds. This sustained exhaust gas flow is more then adequite to keep the sensor hot, and as such we would see no benefit to the heated O2 sensor.

If you are only looking to use the sensor wire, without hooking up the heater wires, DON'T!!!!!!!! The O2 sensor is structuraly different, and samples the exhaust in a different manner, using different ports and material construction, and as such must remain heated to survive in the environment of fat and lean conditions experienced so drastically in an air cooled motor. The sensor's reading would go WAY off in very little time, especially driving around town or cold operating, and as such would cause real problems to the ECM when it needs the information it is looking for.

The power commander does look to the sensor for more then cruise situations, so the heated sensor works to it benefit, making readings a bit more stable and consistent. This is not to say that a narrow band sensor is accurate by any means, but is more accurate then just guessing. Wide band O2 sensors are the only real accurate sensor, but that is an entirely other issue.

Just something to chew on.

I put in the 4-wire O2 sensor for a Power Commander yes, but I've decided against using it. The reason for my question is that I'm trying to get out of all the work involved in swapping O2 sensors.

Well you already did the hard work might as well just slap a PC3 on there n run a zero map until you can get it dyno tuned.

If you leave it in Indy, A) you will ruin it, B)it will make your ride run like caca when it does go bad.

I little sweat is a lot better then a ton of headache.
