In case anyone is interested, I checked some different points on the firebolts motor with my temperature gun. I checked at the front of the head on the exhaust side and got 225-228 degrees. On the middle of both cylinders the temp ranged from 250 on the front to 262 degrees on the rear. The skin temp on the oil tank aka swingarm was 144 degrees and the actual oil temp was 153 degrees. This is all after a 11 mile ride and the shutting the engine off. I am impressed mainly because Buell has done a great job of getting engine and oil temps down on these new sportster motors. As a reference to the regular sportster engines my temps were as follows:Front head-315 degrees; front cyl.-290; rear cyl-300; oil tank temp-165; and actual oil temp-185. I believe the oil jets, oil cooler and the electric fan are all doing a good job! |

Has anyone weighed their FireBolt wet??? I was wondering what the true wet weight (full tank of gas and all) is with the race kit of course... |

XG, The moto-publications all pretty much agree. The XB9R wet weight is 455 LBs. That may be with a half tank of fuel though. Not sure if the race muffler provides any weight reduction or not. I kinda doubt it. |

Race muffler saves 1.5 pounds over stock. |

actually the wet weights that I have found are 425 and 429 with no gas...gas puts is at 451. I was just wondering if anyone here has done a realworld weighing...I trust magaznes about as far as I can throw them. It'll be nice to see what a real aftermarket muffler will weigh and what that will do to the weight of the bolt. The stock can looks as bad as the Anchor on the Blast |

Aren't the Yomamaha and Soozuki guys the only ones obcessed with weight specs? All my Triumph, Kawi, BMW and Buell friends are too busy wearing out their tires to weigh the bikes. |

Bud, The Dunlops on the XB's are a special version. They're lighter than the standard Dunlop of the same series. You can mount standard tires without adversely affecting handling. |

The Dunlops are special and I am told by a very reliable source that you WILL feel the difference unless yu really ride gently. Dave |

If you buy the official HD Dunlop’s you will absolutely feel your wallet being lighter. As a rule, Brigdstone tires are a bit lighter than comparable Dunlop’s so maybe a set of BT 010's would be a good low cost compromise. |

I put Pilot Sports on mine and I felt a huge difference. I will not recommend the O.E.M. 207's. Extra cost for less tire???????? |

I did a Google search and came up with the PERFECT accessory for Darthane: www.wheels-4-tots.com/info.htm I emailed them and they said that they'd consider coming up with a version for the Firebolt. They're a bit behind, but they could have a few prototypes for us to test by next year's Deal's Gap Rally. |

LOL...well, breaking my precious 'bolt early Friday morning and spending the next 6 hours going to get parts and repairing said bike didn't help. I got it done just in time to ride two up to the dinner at DGMR, which was no fun (both my g/f and I are quite new to two-up riding). On the way back it was very dark and started to rain, so no fun there, either. Then it rained Saturday until 2 or so, I got back to Fontana at 5:30 and spent nearly an hour trying to find someone who could give me a hand unloading my 'bolt. And then, just to top it off, I got 5 or 6 miles down 28 south and it started pouring. ::sigh:: Next year. All that and I still had a good time. My truck did make it through the Gap 4 times, though. He got a hitch plug and a yellow dragon sticker for his efforts keeping up with a pack of Miatas on the way out. :-) Bryan |

You've never even BEEN there. And besides, it was on NC28, not the Dragon. At least it was on a curve that even has a sign proclaiming it to be dangerous, and not shitty Michigan roads. LOL |

No posts on this board in a few days, where did everyone go??? My local dealership, San Jose HD/Buell, had the 100th whatever celebration this past weekend. I had a chance to demo the firebolt for about 40 minutes. I must say, I was still debating what bike I wanted to get next, the debate is over. Options were: Firebolt or F4I. The Honda was a qualified option for me because of price and my past experience with Buell reliability. However, after flogging the bolt on HWY 9, I fell in love with the bike. It handles like everyone said it does, in a word, superb. No one on this board has complained about mechanical shortcomings (exceptions: sidestand and lack of seals around light covers), so that puts me at ease regarding reliability. Price is the only thing holding me back now. 10,099 is hard to justify to my financial advisor(wife) when she already knows I can get the Honda for around $8000 out the door. If only it was priced like the dealers back east. Take a look, one even has Bolts for $8,599. Even this price is attainable, $9,320.00. Can someone tell me how they can do that and my dealer can't? More importantly, can someone get me a bike for this much??? Thanks for any input. -ramon |

I don't know where you can get a cheap one, but you will be happy with one if you get it. I have 8,000 miles on mine(absolutely not ONE single problem) and just got back from a 2600 mile trip from KC to N. Carolina and back through Eastern Kentucky.....The bike was great. If you do a lot of straight-line riding, (alot) check out the XB9S in a few months, it should be quite a bit more comfortable and have all the same handling characteristics. |

SteveP, Is that a Buell tail bag on your bike. Does it attach by clipping in and locking like the stock pillion does? Jeff |

Some dealers pull youin with that price then add add add next thing you know you are way past the price you would have paid at the other dealer. Just find a dealer that will treat you right and always find the out the door price. |

Captainplanet, The bag has hook loop straps that wrap around the stock pillion seat to hold it on. The bag looks and works great. I am posting some more pics of the 'bolt in the Rocky Mts. on the pic's page. SteveP |

Ramon: It's not that they can't, it's that they won't. Or maybe they will. You won't know if you don't try. Brush up on your best negotiating skills and go shopping. Have a bunch of money in your checking account, up the limit on your VISA, or get pre-approved for a loan. Know ahead of time what the add on fees are supposed to be (sales tax, license tabs, etc.). Arrange for insurance. In short, make it easy for the salesman to sell you the bike. Then take up as much of the guys time as you possibly can. Negotiate a little bit then go for a test ride, negotiate some more, go for lunch, come back, take another test ride, then negotiate some more. Come back tomorrow and do it all again. Go to the dealer an hour before closing and keep the salesman there for two hours past closing. The more time and effort he has invested in the sale, the more he would hate to see you walk away. Be fully prepared to walk if he doesn’t meet your price. After you walk, come back in a couple of days and start over again. Sooner or later the bike will be yours and for your price. Negotiating for a good price can be a royal pain but it’s worth it in the long run. Where else can you earn $1,500 or more in eight to ten hours? Remember that even the dealer that’s selling the bike for $8,600 is making a profit. I don’t know but I’d guess the dealers are paying between $6,500 and $7,000 (plus freight) for the Firebolt and EVERYTHING over that is profit. Stick to your guns and best of luck. |
