"Centrifugal force will push the oil outward especially if the rider is hanging off the bike." Correction: Centrifual force will tend to push the oil outward only if the rider is hanging off the bike. Without the rider hanging off, the force of gravity trying to pull the oil down/in is exactly offset by the centrifugal force trying to push the oil down/out. Your possible explanation #1 makes sense to me; #2 does not. Another possibility is that the demise of your oil pump drive gear and the resulting debris may have contaminated the engine leading to failure. We have seen this before, but in addition to the extreme wear usually the gear also exhibits fractured teeth. |

#1 doesn't explain the knife edge blades on the oil pump gear. And none of the blades/teeth appear fractured to the naked eye. So perhaps there's a #3 we've yet to think about. |

Out of tolerance run-out on the crank at the cam side bearing will cause excessive wear on the oil pump drive gear. Again, we have seen this before. (Message edited by blake on November 23, 2005) |

Hmmm, could a loose crankshaft nut lead to excessive runout or problematic deflections at the oil pump drive gear? Methinks absolutely yes. |

So you've witnessed experiences like mine before I posted this thread? |

Yes with clarification that I am talking specifically about the excessively worn oil pump drive gear, not personally, but via the posts of BadWeBrs. |

In fact we have pictures, somewhere. |

Was the cause of the excessively worn oil pump drive gear ever established? |

Not sure, but the explanation I have heard that makes sense is the one stated above, excessive run-out of crankshaft end at oil pump drive gear. |

Fare enough. Then why was this solution you knew about never brought up before? We've been discussing this here for weeks and you're only just now chiming in with some useful information. To tell you the truth, it wears me out a bit knowing you've known about this for this long and I'm the one who publicly discusses it with vigor. If I would have known as much as you do about this obvious problem by way of you pipping up with more of what youthinks, then perhaps I could have had a more productive conversation with Kipp. But evidently I'm just a squirrel in your world trying to catch a nut. So I'm going to go enjoy my family, take solace in the fact Buell graced my warranty, maybe even get a few miles in, and dream of my newly arriving track beast. Happy T-Day. |

What solution Dago? I offered no solution. I merely offered one possible explanation for the cause of your engine trouble. I only just recently chimed in with that information as I only just recently learned about the specific characteristics of your engine failure. Not sure what you are expecting from me Dago. How can I help? Sorry you feel worn out by my well-intended posts. My only interest is in trying to help understand the cause of the problem. Family beats BadWeB every day. I'm headed outside to rake leaves with my loving wife. Happy Thanksgiving. (Message edited by blake on November 24, 2005) |

>>>>Family beats BadWeB every day. That's an accurate statement. And a day with the smell of food coming from upstairs, a Strat and a big amplifier in the basement is even better. Happy Turkey |
