 I just put the Traction Hand Grips 55959-02Y $13.95 on my XB9R. they are great. a little bigger than stock and feel good on the hands. | ||

tank bag for xb9r.just put on tank bag from ocelot,$57 24liter.its awsome had to do a few mods.,put grommets on the front two straps,then you screw them on the air box screws..on the rear you have to cut the strap.put gromets on each end and screw them on each side of the air box,then join the clip strap to that it is in the middle.note make sure you get the right size grommets so the screws can fit the hole.takes about half hour.but saves you about $1oo bucks compaired to the buell one. | ||

I've been riding a Blast for over a year now (first bike, great to learn on) and I'm now looking for something more 'exciting'. However, I am very short (5'4" ), and I am have heard that it is a bad idea to lower a bike because it alters it's handling. Can anyone comment on this, or make suggestions on how I can lower a XB9R to a seat height of approx. 28.5"? Thanks. | ||

Firebolt Tail light: I'm guessing the tail light housing isn't completely watertight (no gasket!). Rode in the rain, water hit the hot bulb and POOF! Broken bulb. Just a heads up ladies and gentleman, check that light after rain. I'm gonna spring $10 bucks for an LED bulb. | ||

Chain, Make sure the LED lamp has good side visibility. LED lamps are great for longevity in harsh environments - vibration, wet, long life, etc. But some of the less expensive units only have a 30° or less "cone" of visibility. That translates someone that is not directly behind you, or too high or low may find it difficult to see the light as soon as you would like. I always recommend an LED arrangement in addition to a good incandescent standard lamp with a well supported filament . Much better for being seen. I have used this guy here several times with great success. Makes a good product. Jeff | ||

I got the tank bag off my X1 to fit on the XB with NO modification. doesn't look bad at all and saved 149 !@#$%%#@ dollars. I did but the saddle bags and they are awesome. | ||

Just picked my XB9R last night from Earl Smalls HD. The first 50 miles to my moms house was a pain. I have been trying to put miles on it today to break it in, but had to take a breather due to the weather. It is damm hot!! Offical temp is 96F the thermometer on the porch shows 100. The frame get realy hot, have not tempted to open the gas cap to see how much pressure is built up due to the temp. On friday I head to knoxville to see my sister and on sunday I head out to colorado to catch the convoy to Utah. Coming from Belgium this heat is nice,but can't stay out in it all day. i checked into lowering my xb9 and they told me you cant do it because the swing arm is also the oil tank and theres no where toput a bracket.if you find out let me know,id be more comfortable with it lowered an inch.im om my toes now with both feet on the ground.like it lower just for backing out the bar.hehe | ||

Offical temp is 96F the thermometer on the porch shows 100. it was 97 here when i left on the bike yesterday afternoon, and i felt lucky that our temps are finally cooling down!  must confess, tho, that my destination was away from the heat, to some tasty twisties up in the nearby Sierras, elevations typically over 7,000 feet, temps in the mid- to low-70's, trees bigger around than my house, all less than an hour from my garage door. anything less than 70 degrees and i start to shiver unontrollably............... FB, You have to remember that for the last 2 years I have been living in Belgium, we are lucky that a couple of days out of the year it is dry and over 70F. I have the Buell Adventure Jacket, and normaly have the lining in all year round. This will be my last post for a few weeks, as I am leaving Atlanta and heading to Tenn. and then off to Colorado and Utah. Wish you could make it. Miss some of your stories from the past. SteveP | ||

AARRRRGGGHHHH! Just when I thought it couldnt happen to me! My Bolt decided to take a walk off of its side stand wednesday night. Level cement, bars turned to the left, etc. Started it up, turned my back to put my helmet on, crash! Clutch lever, turn signal, foot peg "feeler", mirror and handle bar end scratched. Dealer said Buell will replace the stuff because of the sidestand recall. They still dont have the replacement sidestand parts. At least none of the plastic or frame got scratched up. I'm replacing the clutch lever and turn signal today so I can ride it until service appointment on 10/6. Hopefully by then they will have the replacement sidestands. Word to the wise: Watch that bike! | ||

Just saw a salvaged XB on Ebay being sold by a yard in WI. From the pictures it occurred to me that the frame/tank is a sensitive item prone to damage in a fall. This part protrudes to the sides and is the 1st thing that hits. The bike in question, if you look closely at it, was likely totaled just because of the frame/tank dent as the rest of the damage seemed easily reparable. If the insurance industry gets wind of this rates on these bikes might potentially rise. | ||

Re: Vertical Freeplay I think it was approx 3/8" average vertical play in the primary chain (thru the inspection cover). | ||

My wife and I just returned from Deal's Gap. We had a great time. She rides a yellow blast and I ride a blue bolt. Our lk mile service was due and we stopped off at our dealer in Knox., Tn., (before going to Deals Gap.) When we bought the bikes the salesperson told us this first service was on them. After they serviced them I was handed a bill for $500.00. We went ten rounds with them but still ended up paying $420.90. I asked all the buell riders at the gap and no one I talked to had to pay for their first service. The service dept. initially wrote up the service as a no pay. They were told only Harley's received their first service free. | ||

re: Chainsaw's taillight bulb went "poof!" when hit by water. After washing my Firebolt, I found the rear turn signals fogged. I'll be replacing them soon (to clear my new bags, next post), but went ahead and applied blue RTV to both the taillight and turn signal lenses. There were some stains on the bottom of the taillight lens, as if it had taken on some water in the past.  FWIW, I always carry blue RTV, along with JB Weld, Crazy Glue, Trim Adhesive and Velcro when travelling - often comes in handy. Not having gaskets on a part that's exposed to the weather in inexcusable - I'll let Buell know that they should have gaskets available to retro-fit. | ||

I though the Buell saddlebags were a little plain. Sport Touring Accessories (at Deal's Gap) had Oxford panniers, which seem well thought-out - lots of pouches, expandable, rain covers, etc.  I think they look nice on the 'bolt. $179 plus tax, as I recall. I'll be working on a more elegant way of fastening them (the included straps take more work than necessary), and they do interfere with the stock turn signals (I'll be replacing those with much smaller ones) |
