Well I am posing this question without really being sure that there is something wrong with the bike. So I guess my questions are: Is there something not right and if so what is the cause? I have a 04 XB12R and several things lead me to think that it may not be 100%. First the issue of the throttle hanging up if I set the idle over 1000 RPM. it has always taken a few seconds for the RPMs to return if I set the idle over 1000.The other strange thing is, if I set the idle at 1050 or 1100 it will eventually go back down to 900 or 1000 on its own (I am frequently turning the idle back up). Second I have never been able to power the front end up in first or second since the bike was new. I rode a 12S and that thing was a wheelie monster. When I bought mine, I just assumed that the different riding position put more weight on the bars and made it less likely to wheelie The third thing is I recently installed a TFI unit and I cant seem to get it dialed in perfect. I will adjust it and ride it for a few minutes or an hour even and it will seem like I "Have it". The engine feels really smooth, it accelerates fast and pulls strong all the way to redline. The problem is the settings seem to drift after riding for a while. I will notice it is not as smooth, doesn't pull as hard and will sputter occasionally. If I adjust the pots (esp 4) it will seem to improve for a short time. So is there something going on with the bike or do I not have the TFI unit dialed in yet? What about the other issues? Are these all related? I was told to have the TPS reset but it has been done twice already. It was also suggested I check for intake leaks. Any other thoughts. Am I being to paranoid? |

Maybe give your intake tube a shot of ether at head and throttle body while at an idle. Just be careful where you shoot that stuff while engine is warm. You could also try carb cleaner to check for leaks while running. Might also look at your air intake sensor and connection. From what you posted I would say that the TFI unit is not the problem, but just another variable to play with. Good luck and keep us posted. |

The drifting idle may as you say be an indication of an intake leak. Brennan's suggestions are good ways of checking. I'm not terribly familiar with the whole TPS and FI thing, but maybe a TPS reset could help if you determine there is no intake leak. Henrik |

After listening to Al Lighton as he did TPS resets at Ferris's recently,it must be done properly and seems as more than a few techs don't know the proper technique. They plug in computer push a couple buttons and call it done.Find someone that will do it properly.
