My 12R uses about the same amount of oil with Amsoil vs plain old HD 20/50. It does however run quieter and shifts MUCH better. |

I am running 15W-50 NAPA brand sythetic oil in my XB12 and my dishes are SO clean and spot free, my 15 year old son is now getting all A's in school, and my dog's coat is just positively RADIANT. |

I was disgusted with the shifting on my stock '03 XB9R. Two products made a huge difference:
- AMSOIL 20w50 for V-twins. (in the engine and primary)
- Shifter and brake pedals from American Sport Bike. I don't know if it's the longer toe piece or the bronze pivot bushings, but really makes a difference (Thanks Al!)
The bike is still not as smooth shifting as some of the japanese bikes I have ridden but, easy to live with.
Has anybody ridden the '06 XB with the new trans?
Is it much nicer to shift? |

Justice - Did you ever go through the sequence of adjusting, (1) your primary drive chain, (2) the clutch pack, (3) the clutch cable, and finally (4) the clutch lever?
I thought my M2 was a mess on shifting until I got all of those adjustments right and did them in that order. It is not a rice rocket "snick, snick" but it is certainly not unpleasant.
I'm going to add the later shifter (I have the older up and over style now) and the bushing this winter to remove a lot of play but the shifting itself is not bad at all.

Just a quick note for those on a budget or cheap skates.. The Wal-Mart SuperTech oil filter is the same as BOSCH! Just a different label. You can compare them side by side and they have the same extrenal features. I've been "told" they are the same on the inside as well. |

The trick isn't what oil you use.
The trick is changing your oil before it breaks down.
If that's done, it's all good. |

Yeah, didn't make much of a difference.
The biggest improvement came from the Amsoil and the new shift pedal. |

They may look the same on the outside but what filter doesnt? The only one that come to mind is the K&N because it has the hex nut on the bottom.
The inside on the BOSCH filters is a synthetic media and it is built very well. I have taken one apart. The Supertech filters are made by Fram who seems to use substandard materials.
All in all its your engine do what you "think" is the best for it.

The new style shifter made a HUGE difference on my '99. FYI.
I'm gonna stay out of the oil thing this time. |
