Lately I've noticed that I feel something unusual when I'm riding. I'm getting some kind of tremor, vibration, or knocking being transmitted through the footpegs. I can't hear any knocking or any strange noises from the engine, but it does change with the RPM. I know thats a pretty vague description, but it's the best I can come up with. All I can say for sure is something doesnt feel right. Any ideas? 2003 XB9R, 7000 miles. |

Primary chain adjustment. I had the same kind of thing happening recently, I adjusted the primary, and it's gone. BTW, I have an 03 9R with about the same mileage as yours... |

I am curious...I __THINK__ I might be feeling this as well but I have the Woodcraft rearsets which is different hardware than stock. The RPM range I am feeling (or imagining) the vibrations are about 3400-3800 when under a little bit of a load...especially in 4th/5th gears. When you adjusted the primary was it too loose or too tight. I tend to make mine a bit on the tight end of the specs noted in the service manual...coming up on the 20,000 mile service in a few weeks and am wondering if I should move towards the middle or even looser. That first/second clunk really does bother me sometimes...gotten to where I do "two shifts" (once into neutral and once into second) and that feels much better and quieter... You do not want to over-tighten the primary chain. Some slack is needed as the engine and drivetrain expands / stretches as the engine warms up to operating temperature. Nature of the beast (air cooled engine). About a chain width's of slack is correct. |

Last time I adjusted the primary, I did it hot--the tolerances are tighter (less slack), so I feel more confident that I have the correct setting (rather than setting it looser with the expectation heat expansion will take up so much slack). Just be careful not to burn your fingers checking--that chain gets warm! |

In addition to primary chain and engine mount. Check exhaust supports, hangers, header stud nuts. |

Check your compensating sprocket as well. I have not heard of this on Buells yet, but my dealerships deals with a lot of Sportsters and big twins with loose comp sprockets that cause the customer to complain about the same symptoms. |

I had my compensator nut loosen on my Scg. http://www.badweatherbikers.com/buell/messages/32777/144691.html?1126559428 |
