Both use the stock can to modify. For the XB12, OPS still uses the valve but Drummer doesn't (except for the Econo). Anyone ever compare the two against each other for performance & sound? Looking for more torque & midrange in a pipe. Wondering if the Drummer is worth $150 more?

Sorry, did not mean to do that - just looking to possibly purchase one of them, and just want honest opinions on them.

They are both good performers if you are wanting a modified stock pipe. In fact I believe that in most tests they performed better than a lot of the aftermarket cans. My honest opinion is that they are both pricey for a modified stock pipe. Everyone here will flame me for that. From what everyone says the designers of both have spent a lot of time to figure out the best way to redirect airflow through stock can. I personally think that for that much money you should get an entirely new can, but that is just my opinion. Flame on and have fun arguing.

I have a general question for you Drummer people. Isn't there some sort of copyright laws against taking someone elses product, changing it and selling it as something new?

Special O.P.S. pipe is $250, hardly expensive. Cheapest price around for a slip on.

I'm happy with the Special OPS. I only have experience with stock the Spec. OPS. No dyno data to share.

From what I can tell they both perform about the same.
Your not gonna gain much but you don't lose anything either!
Special OPs has a much less refined sound...which in my opinion is a good thing.
Everytime I pull up at a bike night or something people are looking around for the Harley!

The Special OPS is a little louder and nastier at idle. The Drummer is a little more mellow. I think the performance is close to the same. I have no data to back up that statement though.

You are wrong on that statement Kevin has a economy version drummer priced at less than 200.00

As always. If anyone has any questions in regard to potential pipe performance and considering " The DRUMMER" just call Kevin. Posting questions on the board is one thing, the resultant flame war something entirely different.
Imagine calling over to Wisconsin.
"Hi is Erik Buell there?,I'll hold"
"This is Erik, what's shakin?"
"Hey I was wondering if you make a bike that would be a whole lotta fun and fit my 6 foot frame?"
You get the picture? NUTS

thepup: But the thread started as a question for the 12.
Even so there is always the Jardine aluminum for the 9 still less than 250.00

Kevin: I'll have some data for that a55 soon

Nuts: I 100% have to agree with your last reply

I think all three pipes (include the drummer stainless) offer good value for the money.

You have to get over the fact that they are modified stock pipes. What is the big deal about wanting something fabricated from scratch when there is a ready supply of very well built parts?

How many "from scratch" brands have you heard of falling apart? I have heard of lots. How many special ops / Drummers have you heard of? Mabye the rare minor repair weld necessary, all done promptly and expertly by the maker (or cheaply and quickly by a local shop).

Buell exhausts are NOT to be trifled with. I think modifying a *very* well made stock part is the best approach, not the cheapest.

That said, I ditched my special ops pipe to go back to stock. I make less power, but I make less noise. That is a plus for me, a minus for others. Both pipes work very well, and sound great, and I think both are very fairly priced for what you get.

The Spec Ops is exactly the same as the drummer power is the same because they both perform the same mods.

Just that the Spec Ops is more realistic price. For $250 its not too bad but for $400 pffft.

And KDS you have dyno's but the reality is that when anyone dynos a drummer they dont get the same results so i say the dynos are worth little. Its more about $$$Value and the drummer is just expensive. When you can get the same results from the spec ops why bother.

Hahaa! You're on a roll, Crystal.

I've had both. You are incorrect in saying they are the same internal makeup and power delivery. Have you seen (and ridden) either pipe before in person?

yes and they are the same, of course if there is a back to back dyno showing different then i could be persuaded to think otherwise.

But until then my comment has as much basis and fact as anyone elses

Ok jersey if you have 3 there to change into drummers then send them out for a back to back dyno in a neutral test location.

spec ops VS drummer budget or whatever its called
then get one of normal drummer VS jardine, vs D&D vs force, vs micron.

Then there is no doubt. just get a neutral test to prove the talk and no one can argue.

Until then this issue will just go round and round . And those that doubt the validity of the talk will continue to belive that there is no way a drummer does anything but make noise.

Crystal,
I'd say for you to give Odie a call then and get you a pipe on the way, I have his # do you? Nothing wrong with the ops pipe if you want to save the extra dough, then you can spend that money on your dyno runs since you seem to have all the answers....Do your own testing, I did, paid my money and didn't get anything for free...

good day!

I haven't come across one of these SpecOps pipes yet, but I am running a Drummer. I can tell you that I had the Force full system on my bike, and with a slip-on muffler Kevin matched the peak numbers the bike was putting out with a full exhaust system and gave me back the bottom end and mid-range that I missed so dearly.

I think the Jardine is better than both for right around $200. Plus then you still have your stock pipe for warranty trip back to the dealer.
