Hi all.. this may be a silly question, but I'm still new to my bike (xb9sx). You know how when you turn the key on, it whines for a few seconds before the engine light goes off, then you start the bike? Well this morning it started behaving differently. That whine won't stop. More specifically... It goes away with the engine light, I start the bike and it immediately starts whining again and is constant. Its never done this before, or at least has not been so loud and annoying. Drives fine. What do you think? Is it normal and I just never noticed before? Or maybe its louder than usual? Is this the fuel pump? And I read somewhere that the '06 models have a newer type of pump that is more quiet, is that true? Thanks for your comments! |

It's the fuel pump. Some of them are loud as hell, but it does not mean there is any problem. |

My XB9SX also makes a racket when it's running. It's actually not the fuel pump, but the pressure regulator that's next to the fuel pump that makes all the noise. From what I have read on an FAQ from Buell it's an air bubble that gets into the regulator, that's why sometimes it's noisier than others. It hurts nothing. |

I used to hear mine occasionally, but now that I have installed the race kit, I probably won't ever hear it again. |

Thanks all, that's exactly what I wanted to hear. I figured it was normal. And once I put the drummer on, won't be a problem Just curious though, anyone know if its the same or improved on the '06 models? |

It's usually louder when the fuel level is low I've noticed. |

Yes, the new style pump on the 06 models is considerably more quiet. |

My ex used to do it. Actually she's probably still doing it, but I'm no longer there to hear it. Doesn't mean it's not happening though. |

Get a loud exhaust like d&d or jardine you never hear it when the bike is running. Its like the same thing with the valve train, if you cant hear lots of noise then something is wrong. |
