...no post!!! Lot's been going on which has kept me from posting here in a LONG time. 1) I still have my '03 Firebolt, now with about 8,000 miles. 2) I've given up on new sport tires every 2,500 miles or so and just threw on a pair of Avon Sport-Touring tires. So far, so good. 3) I'm going through a divorce (after almost 30 years). I'm now pretty much moved into my N GA home (near Blue Ridge, GA) which is now my main address. 4) I bought a KTM 950 Adventure last year. This summer went on a 7,000 mile trip as far as Newfoundland. Great bike, great trip! 5) That same KTM tossed me (high-side) on a cold January morning about 2 miles from my N GA house. Ring fracture of the pelvis - a couple weeks on crutches, a week on a cane, a week or so with a gimpy limp, fine within a couple months. Bike scratched a bit but hell-for-strong. 6) I bought a Cirrus SR22 and am back giving a little flight instruction (not in my own plane) Anyway, I'm up for rides any time the weather is decent. I'm on GA HWY 60 between Blue Ridge, GA and Copperhill, TN - great riding in all directions. FastEddieB@mac.com 706-492-3118 Just one question: I'm gradually becoming convinced that the bars on my Firebolt could stand being just a little higher. I've not had much luck searching this site. What are the options? Has anyone in the Atlanta, N GA, E TN or W NC area raised their bars? If so, I'd love to see them. BTW, it looks like a machine shop could easily fabricate brackets that would raise the existing bars - has anyone gone that route? |

Good looking KTM. Those tires look like the ones Dunlop made for the Ulysses. Is that the Superduke I keep hearing about? Howze it corner? As for the bars...do a search on this site for "helibars", I think that they will be what you're lookin' for. I think Al at American Sport Bike has 'em, too. You might want to look up a Badwebber custodian named Glitch, I think he's in ATL. BTW, did you steal Blake's lid? |

Fast....you sure are a busy man. Me and other 3%ers are in the mountains at TWO just about every Sunday running Ga. Hwy 60 from Suches to Morgantown, Hwy 180 to Unicoi St. park and Hwy 129 to Richard Russell Parkway. Maybe we will run into you sometime. You can't miss us (bunch of heavily modded loud a$$ Buells). Check Storm Fronts: 3% Bragging Rights Club for when we are riding. This is Hwy 60 midway to Morgantown(my favorite run)

Fast Eddie, I got the HeliBars on my Firebolt and they made a world of difference...moved the bars up 1" and back 1.5". Got them from American Sport Bike (a sponsor here) and was able to install in about 1 hour. Note: Use tie-downs or something to pull the front/rear wheels towards each other when pulling off the top triple clamp...makes it __SO__ much easier. |

Oh man...I've ridden the roads in that area a dozen times. They are some of the best in the world (so I hear...not like I'm a global traveler or anything). I've ridden quite a bit in N. GA, W. NC, and E. TN. Richard Russel...that's a great road. Went to Helen, GA earlier this year and had fun except for hitting heavy fog going over Wolf Pen Gap. Nearly got wiped out by a motorhome cheating on a corner. |

Pics of my HeliBars...unfortunately I don't have pics of the OEM clamp...make sure you get the "security torx wrench" for the ignition lock...it has a hollow section on the end that normal ones don't have. (Message edited by lovematt on October 14, 2005) |

I also have Heli-bars on my XB9R and the lower "S" pegs too, along with the Touring seat. Work great. I also got tired of changing out rears every 2500 miles, I run Metzler M1 front with Metzler Z6 rear on both my R1 as well as my XB9R. Get close to 5,000 on the rear of both bikes. So, far the only tire I have found that gets me 5,000 on these bikes. PS - Sorry to hear about some of the difficult times you have been going through |

I bought the Heli Bars and feel it is worth the investment. I noticed a big difference in handling when I made the swap. I felt more comfortable leaning into the corners, and sitting upright on longer rides, I'm 6ft. 175lbs. Here's a link to the Heli Bar website and a pic next to the stock clamp. http://www.helibars.com/pics/buell/firebolt-a.html |

Sorry for the delay in response. 1)"Dogwood" - those are Pirelli Skorpion ATs. They come stock on the 950 Adventure. They grip well on the road. Off-road they're marginal. After about 8,500 miles my rear tire was toast - good mileage for a dual-sport tire. I have Continental TKC80's on there now - MUCH better in the dirt, fine for the road (as long as the road is dry). I may have a second set of wheels built - 19"f/17" r instead of the 21"f/18"r on there now, and keep more road-oriented tires on those wheels. I don't know much about the SuperDuke. There is a Super-Motard version coming out (950SM): Looks very similar to the 950 Adventure, but some key differences to accomodate the 17" wheels. I'm not sure what the Ulysses comes with. I know with the Hepco-Becker bags it would be the "cat's a**" for a trip like the one to Newfoundland. IOW, I LIKE IT! 2) N GA riders - give me a heads-up next time you're headed this way - The weather's been perfect and I'm available Sundays (706-492-3118) 3) Everyone else - the "helibars" search worked much better. I'm looking at options. With the way the bars attach, replacing the entire top triple-clamp to get 1" up and a bit back seems awfully expensive/complicated. I'm working on another plan (more on that later). On the left side the only thing stopping me is the length of the clutch cable. Is the "S" cable the same but longer? I'm going to look at the right side tonight. Good to be back! (Message edited by fasteddieb on October 18, 2005) |
