If we can't get our hands on a premium edition Firebolt for the up and coming model year, we should at least be treated to some of the creature comforts of the new XB12X. For example, a 12 volt outlet, because most of us have cell phones, most of us have the need to keep our helmets secured, so a helmet lock would not be a bad idea. Also the extended swingarm on the lightning long would be a nice touch to stretch the bike slightly for taller riders. You should not have to be 6foot5 tall inches and willing to by a dirt bike styled Buell to enjoy those features. They should be across the board. And since the tires are the most important thing on a motorcycle, why not a tire pressure monitor? All of these things could come at a premium, but should be at least an option. |

Aside from the swingarm, all the things you just listed (Snackbar), are things you can do for yourself and rather easily. Why be so critical of them not being included? No body it seems is able to ride one of these things past the 50 mile mark w/o modding 'em anyway (myself included if even mildly - I'm not throwing stones) "I" was pleased that the tail cover [of the R] was included with the bike. It'd be a hunna' dolla accessory on any other brand. Add to that, the availability of alternate windscreens, pegs, controls, wheels, etc. - FROM THE MFR instead of third party market as with Yamahondazuki's. |

Brake fluid and battery fluid (liquid or gel) is also not included in "dry weight". These numbers are, as rd3501 said and court inferred, intentionally deceptive. Wet weight is a far more useful, real world type of figure. |

I agree where an extended R would be a logical next step. I've been a long time fan of the Honda Interceptor. I'd rather see a full fairing'ed R than water cooling... I'm totally in love with the nothing-that's-not-needed-nakedness look that's been achieved. |

the honda rc51 is a vtwin liquid cooled heavy sportbike that has won world championships in race trim .. infact it IS in racetrim - save hardcore diffs off the bat .. the poor little xb's race well & do well, but will never be world championship bikes. i love the buell, & am now informed enough to know it can never be a true racebike. still, the macked out engine mods available are only US$4200++ plus fitment & that amt inc.s machining costs (as part of a kit). & ok, thats a little pricey, but if u already own the bike, u'll get the character of the lumpy buell, the coolest sound this side of motogp 'vs' drag strip & race 600cc speed & handling .. i'm signing up! paul. |

The Buell CAN be a "true" racebike at the Club level - where MOST of the "real racing" takes place. If you have a budget of $100 million - JUST for AMA SBK and FX (not counting MotoGP) - then you can compete with Honda. I think Yamaha's budget was much smaller - more like $70 million a year. |

I understand the weight thing,I posted wet weights off of Sportrider.com.The Buell is Heavier than all but Honda's Race Replicas.I was just questioning why ppl think liquid cooling would make a Buell to heavy, when it already is heavy compared to the competition. |

to bring up the old chestnut ... w/ their considerable resources & financial security, why can't 98% (or whatever it is these days) owner hd corp. create a modified big bore, smaller dimensioned *revolution* motor, for the next gen buell roadrace style bikes? i think once again harley is letting a good thing rot in the pit of biker/drag-racing easy way out when it comes to the buell platform. buell IS harley .. that is clear. i will keep my xb, but i love twins, so i guess a ducati or perhaps hotrodded honda rc51 will have to do. in performance bikes latest issue, there is a parallel twin 2 stroke put together from a liberty/polaris prototype engine .. its a now retired racebike .. homebuilt (w/ considerable resources at his disposal) by the head of R&D at renault F1 ... like the motocysz & britten, so shd be the buell .. truly original ppl always censored or diluted by capitalist scum!! viva la revolucion! well .. u get my point. |

that sounds similar to the tularis built a few years back, and campaigned around the country. I believe it is retired to a museum now. |

Thepup- I believe you're partly running into some conventional wisdom that came from someone arguing that all the external covers and water cooling bits meant that the VROD engine weighs much more than the XB. Thanks again for bringing data to the party, in place of rumor. I wonder if the RR Limited could be built lighter using the Rotax engine from the Aprilias... and some Ohlins, Heli, Marchesini and Brembo parts, as I posted before. I'm sure I could build my own prototype for only $50k or so, eh? |
