Hey guys I am just recently new to the Buell/Motorcycle scene. About a week and a half ago I bought a 03' xb9r from a member of the site and I absolutely love it. Because I am riding my bike to school almost every day, there is really no where for me to store my helmet so is there any helmet lock that will work with the xb's? I searched online a little last night and didn't find anything that was specifically for Buell. Is there a aftermarket one that would work, or any other ideas for me? Thanks -Josh |

Josh, i don't know of a good aftermarket one, ( i just take mine with me to class and it gets the girls talkn ) but if you look in you tool kit under the seat there is a little wire loop, hook that thru your d rings on your helmet and then hook it to a post under the seat, then its locked in there when you put you seat back on |

I opted for the inexpensive alternative...a small master lock with combo (actually designed for luggage) lock it to your rear heelguard...works for me |

There is no loop on an 03 R. I made mine from a 99 cent bracket from home depot. Probably wouldn't stop someone who REALLY wanted your helmet but works good if you can see the bike.

Do you just hook your chin strap under that hook and put the seat back on? |

The bike "should have" come with a double looped wire. Run that through the D-rings and then, while closing the "trunk" make sure the loops are around the latch that's on the bottom of the seat. As it latches it goes through the wires and they must be cut, the seat pryed off or the strap cut for someone to take it. If you didn't get that double looped wire, call Daves and I'll bet he can get one for you. I've also seen a metat "T" made that slips through the D-Ring and then gets locked to the bike in the same way. |

i did the same thing buelltroll did, it works great, and might even be better (more secure) than the cable the 04s come with. |

If you want a gun cable lock you should be able to pick one up at your police station for free. At least you can here in Michigan. Hard Corps |

I bought a set of generic locks and mounted them to the brackets where the side reflectors are. I will have to post a pic later. |

I drilled off the reflectors and used the brackets as mounting points for the locks. They are on both sides and are keyed the same. I used perm lock-tite on the nut so it wont come off without a fight. You can't ride with the helmet on the locks though.

It's a license plate lock hacked and remounted. I was thinking about taking mine and mounting it to the frame rails on my R to get a cleaner look. My reflector brackets are long gone. http://www.sporttouringusa.com/www/helmetguard.htm

Another good thread I remember is to buy a small padlock, place the helmet on the left mirror, the padlock the d-ring to the clutch cable. This keeps the helmet upright and the rain out. |

Why not just hang it off the mirror, simple... |

That's a pretty good way to find out that someone wanted your helmet more than you did. |

they steal HELMETS?? what is wrong with you people? you tolerate the theft of your personal property? you seem to have developed an unhealthy tolerance for this nonsense, i respectfully suggest that you take a stronger stand in favor of respect for private property. start on your street, work to take your neighborhood back from anarchy, and then hope the sanity spreads. |

Helmet manufacturers recommend that you don't hang the helmet on something like a mirror where the weight of the helmet is resting on the interior shock absorbing foam, as this may indent the foam and thus adversely affect helmet performance. |

I have just been setting mine in the ground next to the bike and haven't had any problems (knock on wood) but I would feel much better if I could lock it when I go to class. |
