I read somewhere that the HD sport trans fluid is a synthetic, but not a full synthetic. The Royal Purple SAE grades are semi-synthetic. Does anyone know for sure what the Sport Trans equivelent weight and make-up is??? Wish HD would open up on this a little, they are really tight-lipped on their oils. |

XB9 Rear Stand? Has anyone found a paddock (rear/swingarm) stand, pit bull or other for the XB9's ? I am ready to weld s stand up if I don't find one soon. |

XB9 the sport trans is a Semi Syn. just like the royal purple. As for a rear stand. Use the white padle stand from LockHart Phillips and remove the springs and washers. It will work like a champ. |

Their comment about the engine oils not having EP additives is exactly what I was hinting at. If possible, I want EP additives in my transmission. Most non-HD/Buell motorcycles share lube between the engine and tranny, so they cannot take advantage of the extra protection afforded by EP additives (EP additives do bad things when exposed to combustion conditions). Our Buells can. He is correct though a 10W40 engine oil has about the same viscosity as a 75W90 gear oil. The impression that gear lubes are so much thicker comes from the old straight 90W stuff that at room temperature resembles molasses. I'd not use engine oil in the tranny if I could use a good synthetic gear oil with EP additives, coughhintMobil1hintcough. |

Yea, I've been a little uncomfortable using the 15W40 RP in the Tranny, although it shifts real nice. Am seriously considering going back to the Sport-Trans fluid just for piece of mind, though. Does anyone know for sure if the HD Sport-Trans fluid has EP additives? Royal Purple touts a very high film strength with their oils, would this replace the need for the EP additives? Any oil experts on the badweb?? |

Handy has a stand set, frt. & Rear for about $100, can't beat the price. Had to stretch the rear to fit the width of the swingarm, and modify the frt to work with the unequal length of the XB's forks, but they work great. http://www.handyindustries.com/webdeals.asp |

Any word on 2 Bros Exhaust ? I wish Buell had put a little more appearance thought into the new "race" muffler, even if just polished tips. Does anyone have a date on when Two Brothers will have the XB9 muffler kit? there isn't even an email link on their site. |

Royal purple makes a 75W90 tranny fluid. It works well in my M2. |

The frame and swingarm aren't polished, but you want a polished muffler? C'mon BG, let's keep it real. I think the best treatment for the muffler would be to paint it flat black, okay, maybe polishing the tailpipes would be pretty cool. |

Hey Blake I'd rather all the metal was black instead of that silly silver/grey...the same color they painted the frame of the Blast, I bet they got a deal on a 100,000 gallons. Sorry the whole exhaust of the XB bikes looks...chunky. It's just so out of place on a machine that is so svelt everywhere else. BUT and that's a BIG BUT at least it isn't as bad as the whole look of the New 999. I really feel for the Ducati people |

What is "real" ? Bikes mean different things to every rider and appearance probably matters to some degree to all of us. If it didn't, we'd all be riding Flat Black painted bikes like the Honda 919 or Monster Dark. H-D built an empire on chrome and while a chromed-out Buell doesn't appeal to me much, neither does one w/ an ugly muffler even if it sounds like a symphony. |

Well, I just got the custom seat for my XB. Nice, much better on the ass, but I wouldn't want to go carving serious twisties in it. Feels too much like you're sitting on the seat instead of in the seat like the stocker. It will help out on the long ride to Deal's Gap from here, though. Still gotta file that rub section out of the bottom of it though, lest I repeat my battery cable wear. Oh, and since I don't think anyone mentioned this, there is no helmet lock on the custom seat either. Someone mentioned doing something similar to the X1, that sounds like the best idea to me. Ok, on the Trans oil, I emailed Royal purple for some more input on using the 15W40 RP synthetic in the tranny, here's the response: Hi Dave, I believe the HD primary/ trans oil does contain mild EP additives such as API GL-3 or GL-4. However, as you suggested, the Synerlec additive technology does impart EP performance without the use of common, corrosive EP additives. Thanks again, Jared Martin Royal Purple Ltd. -----Original Message----- From: Dave Leppelmeier [mailto:dave@go-comptech.com] Sent: Tuesday, August 20, 2002 9:37 PM To: jaredm@royalpurple.com Subject: Re: Harley-Davidson Sport Trans equivalent I've now been using the 15w40 in the transmission without problems, but other Buell owners are questioning if this is a good idea, with the lack of EP additives for a gearbox. Some advise I use a 75W90 Gear oil that has EP additives. Your thoughts? Does the Synthetic overcome the need for the EP additives?Does the HD Sport Trans fluid have EP additives? Remember, this is a separate, Primary/trans from the Engine. Dave Leppelmeier |

Helmet Lock: I have these two Helmet Holder Brackets on My S3 under the seat. I'm going to take one off and try to mount it under the locking rear seat on my XB9R. I'll post pictures when its done. part # 53771-97Y (S3 Helmet holder Bracket) |

Mike, The EP additives are only corrosive in a combustion laden environment, like in the engine. They are purely helpful inside a transmission. That's nothing new; we've addressed that issue here before, most recently when someone on the board talked about using gear oil in their truck engine. That may have been in one of the Storm Front groups though, so you may not have seen it. |

That might be helpful info for V-Rod owners. Didn't JQ say that the fluid is shared for the engine, primary and tranny? I don't care how much it simplifies routine maintainence, I'm not a fan of using one fluid for 3 different purposes. |

I didn't just say it, I said it because that's what the bike's design and owner's manual require. Most wet sump bike designs are the same. Which makes HD's myth about the roller bearings kind of moot now as both the air cooled roller bearing and water cooled plain bearing HD's use the same HD 360 oil, which was supposed to be specifically blended for the 'special' requirements of air cooled roller bearing v-twin engines. HD 100% synthetic oil, $10 a quart, probably isn't too far away..... |

XB owners, does your low beam "flicker" with the engine running? Mine does and it gives a strange orange/blue cast to the edge of the light beam that is only visible by looking straight on at the headlight. It does however put out a good white light pattern on the road. If I shine the headlight on a wall for instance, I can see an umbrella shaped shadow vibrating up & down. I think this is the mechanism that provides the low beam cutoff to prevent glare to oncoming traffic; and it's apparently loose. Does anybody else's do this? I took it to the dealer complaining about it and they said it was "OK, not defective & the light 'works'". Ya, right! I got stopped by a cop yesterday because he thought it might have been an older bike or I was trying to signal him. This situation might get me in trouble in certain neighborhoods. Sparky |

Sparky, I've noticed the same thing. My little 'umbrella' shadow is getting lower and lower, as if it's come loose inside the bulb housing. Haven't tried taking it off yet to see if it's something I can fix - I'm hoping to this weekend. If I do I'll let you know what I find. Vice versa if you beat me to it. Bryan |

RACE KIT help!!! Anyone else have a bolt' with a race kit?? Mine dynoed at 77 corrected! What happened to damn near 90!!! It's backfiring on deceleration and this morning I could here it popping when I was accelerating. I need suggestions on what I can try. I need some of you engineering geniuses to rack your brains. Ok.. I just got my custom seat (yes, I ended up ordering it from the board sponsor, Sport Twin).. The seat is very comfortable, and worth the $152.95 price (after shipping). Still cheaper then getting it locally & paying tax on it. Now after my girlfriend's first ride on the back of the 'bolt, she complains that the rear pillon seat is uncomfortable. Did anyone get the custom rear pillon seat for rear passengers? Is it a big improvement? Thanks in advance, Richie |

Archer, Mine backfires as well when I let off the throttle, and very rarely it pops when I gas it. Mine dynoed at 82.7HP and 66.2FT/LBS uncorrected. Personally I think the near-90 was a pipe dream. But hey, if it turns out there is something wrong (Court, Aaron, etc. chime in here) and it bumps my HP by 7 I'm not going to complain! LOL Bryan |

Hey, I just wanted to introduce myself to the board. I have been reading here for a little while and found a lot of great info here. Well I sold the Ninja last night and headed straight to Austin Buell to put a down payment on my new Firebolt tonight. I will pick it up on Saturday. I can hardly wait for the weekend. Jeff |
