Changing the tranny oil today on my 03' XB9R I noticed that the gasket on the clutch cover is different from the one on my 04' XB12S and different from another 03' XB9S I've seen. Mine is rubber and thickerer that the other "crush" style I've seen. ANybody else seen this? What's the story? THanks. |

The cometic "derby" cover is thicker than the HD one. But kinda a pain to get seated. |

Steve, what's a "cometic" cover? This bike is stock. |

Wow, that must be a really early XB. Mike, The early XBs used a different cover and gasket on both the clutch cover and the primary chain inspection cover. The gaskets were rubber and very thick. IIRC they even "fit" into the cover, which made them a little easier to install. I don't know that the original rubber gaskets are even available anymore, they were "updated" to the new cover/gasket. There was even a part number for a kit that included the new cover and the new gasket. I can't remember those part numbers now, but I had them in my notes when I worked at Ray Price. They still had some of the old style gaskets and even a few of the kits in stock last I checked, but you'd probably have to find a Buell-savvy parts person to find the part numbers for them. For what it's worth, the old style gaskets/covers were on the same shelf with the new ones. It's probably fine to reuse those rubber gaskets. Heck, I even reuse the current "crush" style gaskets until they get nasty looking. When I get home tonight I'll look and see if I still have my notes with those part numbers in them. Mike L. Thanks Spike. I do think that it is a very early 9R. BTW, RPHD says they have to see the bike before they will order the "red" bearings and side stand kit for it so I'll probably ride it up Sat. morning if you want to get together. Mike. |
