I heard that its main use was for meeting the epa's sound restrictions. Has anyone experimented with making it always open or shut to see what happens to performance? |

Check hillbilly motors for dyno results. |

before i opted for the buell race kit, i tried experimenting with the muffler valve. there is an electric actuator motor located on top of the air box. this actuator operates a wire cable on a cam that goes to the spring loaded actuator on top of the muffler. I removed the air box cover and manually held the cable in the open position...revved it, not much sound difference, also wired it to stay open and still, not much difference when i test rode the bike.... i put it back the way it was. So, there really is no easy solution to an aftermarket pipe. |

There is a definite difference in performance if you hold the valve open or shut (unless Hill Billy was lying about their dyno's... but I doubt it). |

I wonder what the bike would have run like other than just reving it. I saw the hillbilly motor dyno results that M1 mentioned. It looks like their is more torque and horsepower with the valve inactive and opened but I do not know what the F.A.S.T is on this chart. Anyone know? I like the stock power but am always looking for a way to tweak the bike. |

Look around Hill Billy's site for the fast system. They sell it. |
