I was minding my own business, enjoying this thread about cars vs. bikes, until Dana chimed in with this "gem" -

"That particular car would make quick work even at deals gap."

Referring to his friends Mustang.

Having 30+ years experience roadracing American V-8's I recognized that the Mustang was NOT a car that has built for and raced in organized competition - it was likely built to satisfy what it's owner wanted it to be.

Maybe it's run around Elkhart Lake, and maybe the owner and Dana think it's fast, but all the talk about it making "quick work" is just so much speculation if neither the car nor Dana have been to the gap.

As most of us know, the gap is pretty much one lane riding, and a big monster like that Mustang is not going to "clean up" on a sportbike w/ a competent rider.

BTW Dana, the cowboy boots don't look any more out of place on my Buell than those dumb looking spotlights on that "race car".

Why is this Mustang wasting space on the XB board? It's pretty clear that the guy really likes his buddy's car. There must be some Mustang websites for him to brag to. BTW, cheap shot to attack the other guy's boots. Get out and ride!

I'm confused. Isn't comparing a motorcycle to a car somewhat pointless? From what I've seen here most Buell riders, I'll be one soon, don't like folks calling their Buell a Harley. But to each his own. I think all cars s*ck, that's why my only 4 wheeled vehicle is an old pickup and I have 2 new Harleys. Soon to be one new Harley and one, maybe two, new Buells!

"you are not impressing anyone here about bragging about your road racing knowledge"

Sorry - wasn't intending to "impress", just trying to make the point that parts lists, HP estimates, and "talk", do nothing to make a car faster than a bike.

I agree the thread wandered off course, I was attempting to illustrate that particular car would not "clean up" on many bikes.

Back on topic...
My stock 12R will generally take my buddies 4th gen 'vette with mild engine mods. However, he has the huge zr1 wheels and his turn-in and braking are awesome. He'd get me in the twisties if only because of confidence on unclean roads. If I hit a couple of marbles at speed, I'm lowsided. The C4 might just skip sideways, but there's three more wheels to keep it on the road.

That being said, just like Blake, stock-ish pony cars and all ricers are a waste of my time. I think the Vette is a good comparison to the Buell on real roads.

It looks to be a fun car Dana... But it won't keep up with a Buell at The Dragon, The Spars or The Devil's Highway. The Devil's Highway does have one long straight (about three miles or so with just two or three kinks), but it has about 25-35 miles of tight twisties on either end of it, and that Mustang's a FAR cry from the "vette" that this thread was asking about.

Again... I think maybe we just have different opinions on the word canyon or (tight twisty road). To put it in perspective I mean an 11 mile section of road with nearly 300 turns (to use the Spars or the Dragon as an example). That means 150 turns on a 5.5 mile road course. That means 75 turns on a 2.25 mile road course and it means 37-38 turns on a 1.125 mile road course. Canyon roads are a good deal tighter than race tracks.

Keep in mind... We're staying in our own lane as well. That means you have about 1/3 to 1/4 of the width of most race tracks. The turns will be a great deal sharper in the car. That means the car needs to handle significantly better than the bike. The significance must be greater and greater the narrower the road gets.

I wish someone would give me a run in a vette but every time I would try to play with them, they act like they dont see me. Then they put away from the light at like 5 mph, to tell you the truth I have never seen what the new vettes can really do. I would really like to bang some gears in one some time. I have never seen someone really get on one in person, half the people I see driving them could probably be happy with a mazda miata. But in two weeks I get to take a ride in my friends Noble, yes a real deal noble, now that is a impressive car. If you dont know what it is look at it online

Makes perfect sense, several trips to the Dragon mirror everything you said in your post.

Dana,

You are a scoundrel !!! You know I did NOT call anyone (but you) any names and I PURPOSELY sent you a PRIVATE e-mail so as not to involve this board.

It is quite evident that you are the simple minded, overbearing, bragging buffoon that I thought.

I chose to "let it go" and take it off Badweb, but you just can't let it go, just like you had to take a swipe at my boots of all things.

Personally, I'll choose to avoid ANY function that includes a moron like yourself.

Your missing out then.Homecoming is a great time by all that enjoy Buell's.But hey... thats your own prospective.Well....I wouldn't of took a stab at you or your little boots if you wouldn't have start talking about the car and what it is or isn't without my buddy being able to defend it.Its kinda a insult to the builder.People in the Sport usually don't do that.Bragging you say??Yeah maybe some, proud of my friends accomplishment.Whats yours in your 30 years??BTW there you go calling me names again. That will get you far on this board.

I won't even try to come back - between your broken english, mis-spelling and inability to make a coherent point, it's not worth the effort.

As mentioned above, I tried to take the differences off the board and you weren't big enough - it'll go unsettled because I'm choosing to stop it here.

Blake should not that be.... "No way any American off-the-lot sports car can hang with a sport bike in the twisty stuff"... old bean?

Nope. Main reason is that the car must negotiate what amounts to significantly tighter radius turns. Check out the touring car lap times versus those of the motorcycles around any tight twisty race course. I'm confident that the cars loose. I'm talking production based vehicles, not some winged mega-down-force single-seater.

That's not street legal. Besides, I thought this thread was about production STREET LEGAL cars.

Also keep in mind. If the cars modified then the tables are turned. How about this question. Can the XB (stock) beat (stock) cars from factory?

One of the bike mags did a supersport comparison and had a side bar talking about guest tester Ricky Gadson taking one of the stock bikes (I think it was the Kawasaki Ninja 636) under 10 seconds in the 1/4 mile

All I can say is I'm impressed... any sports car that could get down into that range probably costs more than I paid for my house.

But that's in a straight line... Not a ton of fun : ).

I don't believe there is ANY production based vehicle that can out run a bike (both vehicles driven well) on a tight canyon road. Buell or otherwise. Power is fairly useless to a car at the limit as well. It's all about mechanical grip (wings don't help much at canyon road speeds). I understand that many top shelf super cars (and the Vette just isn't quite there, but not far off quite frankly) can pull more lateral G's, but they need to turn sharper... That uses up their reserve w/o covering ground faster than the bike.

In '83 I'm on my '85 Interceptor going down a 6 lane in New England. Minding my own business, keeping with traffic at around 90 MPH when I see a car closing in my vibrating mirrors. A black Porsche 911 (I'm assuming a Turbo at that) comes up and stays within 3 or 4 car lengths due to traffic. We slowly break out of the congestion and we play cat and mouse for about 1 minute. He is about 1 1/2 lengths infront of me and we're at about 110 or so when I see his rearend squat down slightly and 2 little puffs of smoke come out of his exhaust and I never saw him again nor could I catch him. I slowed down to 90 again and swallowed my young pride........
