I love my XB12S, but keep lusting over a newer CBR RR or GSXR. Anyone own a modern sportbike along with their Buell XB ??? If so - does one of the bikes spend a lot of time "wasting" away in the garage, or, do you ride both of them ??? I do enjoy my XB - but lately most of my riding is early Sunday AM "sprints", and I keep thinking about how much more fun it might be on one of the bikes mentioned above. I'd appreciate any opinions, EE | ||

I have an SV1000S which is definitely not getting the miles that the XB is. I am currently selling the SV in order to get a Dual Sport...thinking I will go for the DRZ400S. Had a built up KLX650 that was a lot of fun and I miss those days. I would suggest thinking about different types of riding that you would like to do. If dirt doesn't appeal to you at all then perhaps a very different street bike from the XB might be the ticket...there are a lot of choices. I am also considering not getting anything once the SV is sold just to make sure a dual sport is what I want to get...or perhaps the XB will be enough and I can pick up some other sports I used to enjoy such as mountain bike riding and RC cars/trucks. | ||

"perhaps the XB will be enough and I can pick up some other sports I used to enjoy such as mountain bike riding and RC cars/trucks." Oh yea, too many "hobbies", not enough time !!! RC planes, shooting, computer sims, not to mention race cars which are just plain too darned expensive to be considered anymore. Just my 0.02. I currently have 2 Harleys, a Road Glide and a Night Train. I love them both, but find myself longing for something different. Enter the Buell XB12X. The Harleys are too similar in my mind. The Glide is comfortable enough to circumnavigate the globe, but so is the N. Train but not as comfortably. So the Train will go when the XB12X arrives. I looked at my riding habits and found dirt/gravel roads occurring enough to take into consideration. Thus the Ulysses. Once it's in, I'll have 2 bikes that are different enough to handle any wild hair I get when thinking about/planning a ride. | ||

I had an Aprilia RSV1000. It did exactly what you mentioned above, "wasting" away in the garage". I had to break the law to really enjoy the bike. I used to love race rep sport bikes. They are fantastic for track days, but on public roads it's overkill. In my area the cops have been hassling the sport bikes, even if they are obeying the laws. You may just have to buy one and get it out of your system. It's like an itch that just needs scratching. Most of the guys I ride with have sport bikes but I don't miss mine at all. | ||

well i dont know if my ninja zx9r counts as a "serious sport bike" or not but every day that i ride it it makes me wish i was back on a buell so at the moment i am waiting on the 06 firebolts to arrive at my dealership to get back on a buell. There is just so many things i miss about my old xb9r did that this ninja just dont do, exept go 120 in 3rd gear which that feater will get me in truble on day any way | ||

like it wont take take a corner the same way the buell did, chain slop sucks, my ninja dont have a fuel light so im always running out of gas and having to pull on the side of the road to put it on reserve, it sounds like crap i miss the sound of a rumbbleing v push rod v-twin, and its longer so its harder to pick the front wheel up, it doesnt have that predictable power curve the buell had. | ||

First off a Buell XB is a modern sportbike. Yeah, I know what you meant. I have a Mille R in the garage too. I like the Firebolt much better, the Buell handles better, is more fun to ride, gets almost twice the mileage on a gallon of gas and is just "cooler" in every aspect. I bought the Mille R cause I got it in on trade for what I felt was a good deal and I do like the bike. It's just not a Buell I guess. Not sure what you mean by "sprints"? Top end? If so, go find some curves!  | ||

I have a Ducati 748r that I've used all season on the track....it's fast, sexy and intense and I'm exhausted after a day at the track Today I took the XB9R and I'm still grinning.... The Firebolt is for fun and the Ducati for more serious business. | ||

Im thinking about getting a jap bike this next summer. Ive got an xb9s now and would like something more sportbikeish, but thats just me. It would mainly be for just having fun, not that im not having fun on the buell, but i care about the buell to much. | ||

I sold my '03 ZX6RR simply becuase I rode the Buell all the time. I got tired of paying insurance on the ninja and taking it out maybe 1 day every 2 months. I sold it at 1 year old with less then 3000 miles on it, and the only reason it had 3000 miles was because of 2 trips to Cali that were close to 1000 miles each all said and done. | ||

I've been very much thinking of picking up one of the modern liter bikes as well. Just something to have for those occasional days that I need MORE in a big way. I'm looking at gixxer 1k's and 750's in the 2001-2004 range as well as R1s and busas as well. My "market research" tells me I can probably pick a very nice one up for between $6k and $8k. To be honest, I love my 12R and don't think I will be getting rid of it any time soon, but my ego is hissing at me to get a full-on rocket ship for the occasional high-speed blast days with "the boys". The 12R will continue to get the majority of riding time and that's precisely why I will not buy another brand new bike. That way, if I find myself not riding the liter bike as much, I can turn around and sell it and not lose my arse. | ||

I have a 748R that I will never get rid of but my 03 Triumph Daytona and 99 BMW R1100S have definately felt the XB12R's presence. I truly have to force myself to ride them and have considered selling them.....John | ||

Billy, EXACTLY what I was thinking, just afraid that one (or the other) of the two bikes would wind up sitting. DAVES - You knew I meant the XB was a modern sport bike. By "sprint" I meant riding the (few) twistys we have here. Overall, it sounds like anyone who has or does own both are riding the XB much more than "brand x". Billy's plan to buy a newer Jap bike at an attractive price (for resale) sounds like a good plan - try it and if it's not more fun than the XB, sell it !!! Thanks, EE | ||

My other ride is an 03 GSXR 1000. I installed Converta Bars on it so i can adjust the riding postion and slightly lower footpegs. Now i can ride all day, where before i had to stop for a rest after about an hour. After 8000 miles all i`ve done is two oil changes and lube the chain every 1000 miles. Where the XB has had several belts, wheel bearings once, fouled plugs three times, fuses blown a few times, dead battery, broken footpeg, and TPS reset three times all in less than 5000 miles. In my opinion the Suzuki has the Buell built in build quality, reliabilty, and huge aftermarket support. Things i don`t like about the GSXR poor fuel mileage (40mpg), everyone has one, shreads rear tires, unexpected wheelies(which can kill you), and people love to steal them. The only things the XB does better is in the handling department and fuel mileage. The GSXR was $1000 cheaper to buy, stops faster, accelerates waaaay faster, is more comfortable, and for me has proven alot more reliable than the Buell. The gsxer also has a huge aftermarket support of exhausts, FI control units, and high performance parts if 155 or so rwhp is not enough. I know i might get some complaints about liking the Gsxr, but that has been my truthfull experience and i think overall its an amazing machine for around $10,000. The Buell is still my favorite cause it just looks cool, sounds awesome, turns heads every where, and not everyone has one! | ||

I have a 03 gsxr750 and its a lot of fun. different type of fun from my xb12 but nothing wrong with that my xb sounds a lot cooler thats for sure | ||

I have a passion for ALL types of bikes. I have a 2003 Suzuki SV1000 Naked, though not a sportbike. I bought it new; it has only 680 miles on it as the XB gains the lion's share of my attention. I like the SV's power, but I want a cruiser now (along with the XB). The SV will be replaced with a Roadstar or VTX or maybe a Victory Kingpin. Previously owned H/D, Honda, Yamaha, street and dirt. Too many bikes, too little time and money. | ||

I love almost any bike out there, I hear a SV1K, TLR, RC51, Ducati go buy and I think "man I gotta get a liter twin for my next bike." Then I hear a 600 go screaming by and I think "man I gotta get a 600 for my next bike." I've ridden several jap literbikes and they all were flat out insane. I'd like to say I could get one and just use it's torque and keep it at a sane pace on the road but the temptation would be too much (ringing a R1/GSXR1K/etc to redline in a few low gears is just amazing). They're fun, but the short amount of seat time I've had on a few XBs was just as fun, but at a little more sane pace. They just have all that grunt down low that lets you have fun at sane/legal speeds. You can torque around on a literbike in it's midrange but the newest ones are geared so tall and the top end is just begging you to hit it. Plus the Buells sound cool at any rpm, I4s you gotta rev up for them to sound their best. I'd definately get a jap 600/1000 for the track, where you could use it...but on the street you just know it's too much bike. It's fun, but you know it can get you in trouble in a hurry and they're a little intimidating...so racy, so powerful and yet on the street. The Buell is far more playful, still fun, still grinning from ear to ear while riding, but you can play with it more and use more of its motor without having to worry nearly as much. | ||

I have had an 03 Suzuki GSXR600, 98 Ducati 748s, and a 05 Kawasaki ZX-10...I put more mileage on these bikes individually than I have my XB but, the XB is the only sport bike I still have in my garage. | ||

By the way... How do the ergos of a stock XB12R compare to one of the new Japanese liter bikes? I have to believe the XB12R is less radical but never sat on one... Tim | ||
