Just kidding. I like all of them but the XB9S is the most fun to ride...
I'm an idiot because a guy shouldn't own 5 bikes at one time - can't ride them often enough unless you're retired.

Owning another bike would be all about what YOU want... Personally, I have a '90 Springer softail and a 98 S1W... I love the low end torque of the Buell and care not to ride a race replica... But that is just me... |

I just got rid of my '03 GSX-R750. The reason: I wasn't riding it. My Buell was actually the 5th bike in the garage. I hated it when I first bought it, but we have since bonded and the Gixxer was voted off the island.
I agree with several of the above posts, the Gixxer isn't any fun on the street, way too tempting. I have no need to go 172mph anymore.
I still have an '04 FJR and my wife rides an '05 FZ6 & an '04 ZX-6R (636). So it's not like I can't get my fix if I need it.
The more I ride my Buell the more I "get" it. |

Yes. When I was younger I wanted the fastest bikes but as I grow older I find that I don't need that much power anymore - I never was capable of using it anyhow!
But I would hate to try to talk a 20 yr-old into buying a Buell over a GSXR - an impossible task? I know how how I felt when I was that age.

23 and I own the XB9SX and am dying to own the XB12X. Course, then I would just HAVE to get an old tuber to complete the stable. Just need a better job.... |

Hey Tim. I have had the pleasure of riding my 12R back-to-back-to-back with a 01 Gix1K, 05 Gix1K and 00 Gix600. The Buell is "just right" for my 37 year old, 5'9', 165# self. I definitely prefer a sportier riding position, but not too radical and the 12Bolt is perfect for me. I would say the second best was the 01 Gix1K. Felt like I could ride all day on that bike.......go figure. The 05 was tiny and felt a tad bit cramped and the 600 felt a little too stretched out with too much on my wrists. |

Firebolt020283 and Cataract2 -- im in the same boat as you guys, im 22 and I love my buell. there isnt another sport bike that even comes close. once i got my 12S i started looking at the older stuff like the tubers alittle closer for a stable mate. a friend of my fathers has an old XR 1000 that i am trying to buy from him in the worst way, not quite a buell but more like the one that started it all |

Thanks for the ergos response. I'm thinking about selling my 929RR and picking up a used low-mileage XB12R. The 929RR is just too painful to ride any distance - rode it 200 miles last Sunday and couldn't wait to get off.

This thread has just about solved my "dilema".
Reading all your experiences of "brand x" comparisons to your XBs makes me think all I need to do is make my XB a little "racier" (looking).
Then I'll have the "sportbike" look that's been "nagging" me and still keep all the "pluses" of the Buell XB.
Already have most of the parts for an "R" tail section, I'm going to further investigate a "full" body kit and think about putting together a "Hal's Replica" XB12R(R).

Making your XB a little "racier" may help, but I think the real answer is to get some seat time on one of the bikes you're after. I've had my XB12R for about two years now and from time to time I get the itch to own a GSX-R or CBR for the same reasons Medic 2512 posted. I even went as far as to list my bike in the classifieds here wanting to trade it for a 954. Fortunately I never did trade it and I'm able to ride imports often enough to remind myself that they're not the bikes for me.
Another fix could be to get some track time. A closed course is really the only place you'll ever truly find out what you and your bike are capable of. Also, my desire to own a "superior" import melted away after powering past dozens of them on the track. |

I have an 01 R1 i got new in feb 02 and it now has 50,000 miles.
I have a corbin seat and Helibars on it. It is my Sport/ Sport Touring bike. In addition to spirited sport riding on Saturday mornings it has done several week long trips of about 2,500 miles each trip
I have a used XB9R that i picked up in feb with 1800 miles. it also has Heli Bars and Buell Touring seat. I use it as my Street / Sport bike /with a minor on Sport Touring. i use it as my daily scoot along with a Sunday blast. It now has 8,350 miles |

My other bike is an 04 FZ6. It does sit alot. After a week in that saddle, my grin is even bigger when I get on the XB9. I only ride the FZ6 when the Buell is low on gas and I am too lazy to go fill it up (not often at all, but it happens).  |

The thing that's close to pushing me over the edge on a Sportbike is my local dealer's aquisition of an '02 CBR954RR with VERY low miles.
They are eager to trade me out of my XB, but everytime I get close to making a move on a sportbike the more radical riding position, torque curve, top speed "liability" and all that's been mentioned here come to light.
If I could simply take heed of what I already know and all the good advice here, I'd simply "walk away" from bikes like the above.

The track is a great idea, BUT, I've just sold off my (last) race car and know all too well that some track time could lead to a track bike, the lure of competition and etc.
I sold the race car because I couldn't afford the tire bill, and my wife would definitely be a big roadblock to MC racing.
I know you can do track days w/o going on to race, but the last race car I bought started out as a "low key" streetable Corvette to run a few laps with and quickly became an ex-Transam racer, closely followed by 2 years of as many races as we could make.
I've been grappling with this for months and in spite of the "possibilites" I'm now thinking the best route is to stick w/ the Xb and spend a few bucks on it.

It's a toss up when I go to the garage but the Buell usually is first choice. If I am just going downtown
the Laverda goes.
