I was always curious as to how fast these bikes are. I own a 2003 XB9R with a race kit. I know that these bike won't run on the top end with Japanese sport bikes, but will they give a sports car a run for the money? |

Where? at the dragstrip? Light to Light? Corner to Corner? Pro Rider VS Pro Driver or Average Joe VS Average Joe? You need to narrow your question down a bit more. All around I know my 12 has "Fun" with Vette's and 'Stangs, but in the end they top out higher then my 12. In the canyons its no contest, bike hands down. Light to Light, depends on who gets the jump and is more willing to hold it WFO, and how far to the next light. |

Depends on the model of the Vette or the Mustang. Then again I know a Mustang that has close to the top speeds that the 1000's are reaching in the straights. But she's no production car.She is on the road though occasionally. |

I was having a little fun with a C5 corvette coming down an on-ramp and it turned out that he was just having a little of fun with me. I was WFO and he was right on my back wheel all the way through 115 when I slowed down. By the sound of his exhaust, he wasn't stock though. |

look at the contact patch(s) on that corvette, then tell me exactly where you think your motorcycle will outperform a vehicle with 4 fatties on the ground. |

The car can if the suspension is up to the task. |

But on the road, the Vette has less room in a lane as a cushion then a bike does, which is why I say in the canyons its the bike hands down. On a racetrack, it is a different story because the Vette doesn't have to worry as much about oncoming traffic. |

I was having some fun with a brand new nissan 300z. I seen him coming up real fast in my mirror and the freeway was empty that day so I let him get close and I just rolled on the throttle (I didn't even have to down shift). I got it up to about 120 when my exit came up so I slowed down and the nissan blew by me. A 300z is no vette but is a solid performer. Anyways, it feels good to beat up on imports. LOL. |

Wycked if the car is dialed and it has the components to do the deed it will win. |

In the Canyons the Vette is waxed. The wider the road, the more advantage goes to the Vette until it's finally in the Vette's favor. In a twisty canyon the difference in radii of the corners is a larger percentage than on a wider road (say two lanes and you're willing to use both). "With the right components" yeah, a Vette can keep up with a stock XB in the canyons too but if we get to put money in the Vette, we get to put money in the XB. All we need is a correct tire change and the Vette is going to need quite a bit of money to keep up. Like more than the bike's MSRP. |

fullpower, don't lie to me, my mom owned a 200sx and I know how fast those cars are and they are nothing compared to the new 300z |

M1 a vette costs 5-6 times thew bike MSRP,whats your point??And no you wouldn't need that kind of money in the cars setup. My buddys Mustang doesn't have that kind of money in the suspension although not cheap but it would wax the xb like it was standing there. |

Wycked if the car is dialed and it has the components to do the deed it will win. There you go changing the challenge. Its stock VS stock, or tuned VS tuned. If I can throw a "dialed" suspension at the Vette then I get to throw a "dialed" suspension at the XB. If I can throw "power" at the Vette then I can throw "power" at the XB. But it still comes down to who has more room to play when you get into the canyons with oncoming traffic. |

Not changing the challenge...didn't know it was one???Have you ever been in a car that is setup for that one intention??I have and its amazing.Bikes are as well but cars can do it better if setup.Take money out of the equation.Take a superior setup bike and HP to match and a car with superior setup and HP.The car is faster. |

When it comes to the tight stuff a halfway decent automobile with good rubber will beat a bike easily. Look at the difference between cars and bikes in regards to track times, the cars are able to navigate the tracks quicker due to lower cog and 4 huge contact patches. A canyon would yield the same results, although i personally dont know a single person who lives near a canyon. |

Only a Mustang with grow your own, Griggs or Total Control suspension would keep up with a stock XB in the canyons and probably only a parallel four link setup with a watts or at LEAST a pan-hard rod. It would also require rims and tires, a gutting of the interior and moving the engine about 6" back along with a fuel cell and battery moved to the trunk. Maybe we just have a different deffinition of canyon? Keep in mind that we are staying on our own side of the road and of course, the pilot is a huge factor. The only vehicles that have ever given me a run for my money on the Spars were one Mazda Miata (with at least a roll cage, I don't know what else) and a Porsche 911T and a Honda S2000. It takes a compete re-work of the front suspension and to remove the body from the frame to fabricate the four link rear suspension on a Mustang to make it handle well enough in tight corners. "When it comes to the tight stuff a halfway decent automobile with good rubber" If the car gets good rubber, so does the bike. Then it's about geometry. Setup makes next to no difference w/o geometry. Again... maybe we just have different deffinitions for "canyon". The road I envision is very tight and pretty narrow in most places. It also has a double yellow line that I don't cross. |

M1 I've been out to Road America I don't no how many times with my buddy.I've seen Salleen's Steeda's,etc that can and do much better then bikes in general and they are driven in and out.Plenty places there are narrow these cars negotiate them like they are on rails. Some even click off better times then bikes like my buddys car. |

Go to a race school and go roadracing, or at least a track day, and you won't care about the Vettes on the street. Have some real fun in a much more safe environment. |

Exactly Dana. Have m1 look up various lap times and he will see cars are faster than bikes on the track. Doesnt matter what rubber is used either, there is no way a bike is going to out corner a car. How many g's can a car pull vs a bike? Its not even a close race. |

Check this 'Vette out. Dont pay attention to the title of the vid, its really a Doug Rippie vette. It is sick! http://www.importevolution.com/videos/drm.wmv Since this vid he has added a supercharger and had it re-tuned by Rippie, unreal. This is shot on the main drag in town. |

Cycle World just did a tes this month of 10 cars(i think 10) against an agusta f4 sport bike. I think it placed 4th behind 3 very special and expensive cars and beat the rest(including a corvette). If I remember these were just speed tests, 1/4, 1/2 and 1 mile runs. |

Heres the car that I have been in and yes its extreme but it will dust the bikes out there. Would it dust a bike with an equally competant rider that had as much modification to it on a public road during everyday traffic, through Deal's Gap baring any police interference? That is what I am comparing as a "canyon" situation. My mental reference is Salt River Canyon or 89A "The Spars" here in AZ. But Deal's would work just as well. |

That would be an interesting match up Dana, but one I think all of us would breath better not ever putting to the test. Don't misunderstand me, I know he will beat the bike without question on the closed track. |
