151 Miles before light came on. Gotta love the 4.4 gallon tank. |

Loyal, Do you know if the rider's dimensions have been increased on your SS vs a S?? I sat on a SS Sat. and though it has a larger seat it felt very similar to a S. TIA Frank |

nice range. do you know yet what the USABLE fuel capacity is? i have twice run 156.8 miles on my XB12, each time put in 3 gallons. promised myself that the NEXT road bike I buy must have a 200 mile range. |

How far did you ride with the light on and how much fuel did it take to fill it up? With a 4.4 gallon tank and near 50mpg the 12Ss and the 12X should both be good for over 200 miles from a tank. I'm beginning to push the fuel light more and more on my 12R. I used to only ride about 10 miles on the light, but I realized that when I filled up the bike would only take 2.8 or 2.9 gallons. I'm going to try to start using up the rest of the fuel in the tank. I've recently been riding about 20 miles on the fuel light and the bike will only take about 3.0-3.1 gallons meaning I still have over half a gallon left in the tank. One of these days I'm going to bungee a small gas tank on the bike and see just how far the bike will go before running out. I'm willing to bet the average XB will go over 30 miles on the fuel light without running out. |

Have gone close to 40 miles with low fuel light on, not by choice, but by bad judgment. Was awful glad to see that gas station on the horizon. That was on my XB9R, not the XB12R. Hope not to ever do it again. |

I regularly get an easy 40 out of my reserve, and put barely 3 gallons back into it. I personally think the sensor will trigger the light differently on every bike, so discretion is the better part of an adventurous spirit. '04 xb12r |

I went 29 miles on reserve on my '04 XB12S (142 total miles) and put 3.2 gallons in. I'm sure I could go 40 miles on reserve, but haven't pushed it yet. |

I recently was surprised at the mileage I got going across the Cherahola Skyway(sp), near the gap on my XB9. Very nice ride, up and down mountain roads the whole way. I filled her up at the crossroads and hauled down rt29 to the skyway, and continued through to Tellico. I don't remember the exact mileage, but it was definitely 65-70mi. I put exactly 1.1 gallons in at the stop. I was amazed. |

On the xb's can you hurt the fuel pump if you run it out, just wondering. Cause my last project car I just sold had a walbro 255 pump, and my friend said never run it dry?? |

I think it has some type of engine shut off when you get really low. I thought I ran mine out of gas one day it just died on me about a mile from a gas station. When I finally got it to the gas station it only took 3.4 gallons. |

All fuel injection systems really should have a shut down feature...it is not good to let the high pressure lines to the injectors run dry. Most cars (not sure about bikes) will shut off and you may be prevented from even starting it again until more gas is added. My friends newer Impala was that way...gas leak on the tank that was slow and he was gone for a long trip...came back and the Check Engine light came on...turned out the fuel level was below E and so the car said "no way" as a self protection feature for the fuel injectors. |

I'm pretty sure the XB's have that same feature. Try doing a stoppy without much fuel. Engine dies and when you turn the key off and then back on you can not hear the fuel pump. wait a few seconds for the fuel to settle down and it all works good again. |
