hi i have a city x one month old , going for first sevice, mods so far , buell race can, k/n filter , chip will be put in on service, axle sliders front and rear, previous tarmac experience this year on a rsv mille, boo hoo. frame sliders lsl , plus carbon frame protectors, not that i am paranoid about dropping on floor.problems so far ,starter has mind of own, rock it in gear and off it goes, i ride a aprilia tuono factory , the xb city x is as good round corners as the rsv , but not as fast, can't have your cake and eat it. the city x is a excellent tool for blasting around on , check out corner ability in uk bike mag, next set of tyres will be cut rain slicks , road legal ones as they warm up staight away. the bike was used in the rain a few days ago , yuk never been so dirty ,me that is. not a lot of protection, the bikes look so cool with shorty mudgards, how do you get the back wheel out because theirs no info in manuel, bikes really good on fuel ,between 52 to 62 to gall running in, a little less now its getting over 4000 revs . overall very pleased with it . it will be used daily though winter , poor thing, run in and now running out.

Cool, glad you like yours too. I love my CityX! I suggest you get a service manual if you like working on your own stuff. Lots of good info in there that there isn't room for in the owner's manual. Contact DaveS; I'll bet he has manuals in stock!

Never heard of starter problems like that before, and am not really sure what you are describing.

The short wheel does wallpaper the back of my jacket and helmet when riding through muck... I just hose them down with the bike when they get dirty : )

The handguards make a big difference, it will be a decent winter commuter.

The full service manual gives great details about pulling the rear wheel. From memory, there is one or two allen head pinch bolts around axle on bottom of swingarm, you loosen the belt idler assembly to take tension off the belt, then remove the axle with the supplied "tool" (back to back nuts) in your factory tool kit. The manual says to pull the rear caliper also, just two bolts, an easy job.

The axle can be a bear, make sure you put plenty of anti-seize on the axle during reassembly. Before you go with the 3 foot breaker bar, make sure you removed the pinch bolts, and try some heat and penetrating oil. More then one axle has been twisted into a pretzel by a really big breaker bar.

Could be starter relay... or just the switch. I had a yamaha that used to do that, once or twice a year I would just blast the housing with WD40 and it would clear up.

Roly - Want to Ditto the prior suggestion to get a service manual.

The XBs are a unique bike with there own unique assembly / disassembly issues. If you plan to work on your bike get one, it will save you a lot of time, furstation and money.

It is a real easy bike to work on, but it has it's own way of doing things... The Service Manual is worth it's wieght in gold.

PS - I got the parts manual too. It shows more detailed picture how things go together and wasn't that much more. I got mine from Daves

An addition to the above list.... Dead spot on the starter. Not common, but I have seen 'em... but I'm leanin' towards the starter relay/switch too.

To see if it is your neutral switch:
If it "does it again", pull in the clutch.
The clutch has an idiot switch too.
You should be allowed to start the bike in gear if the clutch is pulled in.
