I had a 2004 xb12r that I bought new about a year ago. I had the factory race kit installed and bought the extended warranty and a 2k dollar maintance plan. When it was all said and done I had bought a 12k dollar motorcycle and that was with a trade. May seem expensive to some but I did not think so. I loved that motorcycle, and it was worth every penny to me. I had the bike for about six months and put about 6k fun and trouble free miles on the bike when about in Feburary I started to have some problems with the bike. It first started out with just a rough idle when it was cold and then slowly progressed into bigger problems. The bike started to miss. It would run on one cyl for a couple of miles then would run fine. Sometimes the bike would just stop running. I took it to the dealer and the first, and second time that I took it there, the bike stayed a week each time and there were no problems found. About the third time I took the bike to the dealer they finally duplicated the concern. They replaced the back spark plug wire and the idle adjustment cable and reset the tps. I got the bike back and the next day the problems came back. I took the bike back into the dealer which it stayed for another two weeks. An instructor from MMI and a Harley rep came out to diag the bike. That is when the dealer replaced the fuel injectors, the Oxygen sensor and the TPS. I got the bike back and the bike no longer stalls but the rough idle still exists and the bike still misses. Not only that but now the bike pings real bad. This is where it gets frustrating. You see because the bike would run bad when it was cold and when it would warm up would run better but would ping real bad. There was no happy medium. It went back into the dealer about two or three more times, I can't remember. After that the dealer didn't even tell me what they replaced, It didn't matter. The bike was always the same when I got It back. They did tell me that a new ECM was installed. There is light at the end of the tunnel. The general manager and the service manager went to Las Vegas to be breifed on the 2006 models that would be coming out, and with them they took a stack of work orders and notes on my motorcycle. Apparently, the General manager and the service manager were going to show these to some big wigs at harley in hopes of getting some help. They got the help they needed and a week later I had a brand new motorcycle with out even having to ask for one. All the accessories are getting transfered over and my warranty as well as actual miles starts all over again. I had about 8k miles on my other bike too. The only draw back is that my bike was black and the new bike is red. The dealer told me that they could swap the plastics over but I opted for the new stuff. You know the red is kinda growing on me anyways. The new bike is just about broken in now and haven't had any problems so far. All my love for buells and riding has been restored. I know there are alot of harley dealers out there that are dropping the buell line and it seems that dealer support may seem weak but I have no doubt that my dealer did everything they could to help me out. I guess my advise to anyone having issues with their bike is to be patient and hope for the best and maybe everything will work out in the end Just another satisfied buell customer |

Sweet now you get to beat the new one up. Give it hell and maybee you can keep getting new bikes every summer. Just kidding happy to see someone getting what they have coming to them, I would not argue with a new set of wheels. |

Hey man that is great to hear. I bought my XB12S in October 2004 and the next day while I was riding it blew a fuse. I called the shop and they came and got it and turned out to be installation error, someone put the fuses in wrong. No big deal I say simple mistake. December rolls around and had plugs foul out, again no big deal, cold weather related I say. A few months later it started blowing fuses, no brake lights no tach, speedomoter, and no turn signals. Replace the fuse and go another few weeks and it does it again. Take it to the shop and they can't find anything wrong with it, a few weeks later it goes back to the shop for the same thing. Then my headlight starts shorting out, back to the shop again. I get the headlight fixed and then more fuses blow including mine. They replace the turn signals and for three weeks no problem, then riding down the road and they whole bike shuts off, fan is cuttin on and off engine light is flashing. The shop picks it up and no problem is found, fires right up. They end up replacing the ecm this time and that was yesterday. The bike has been in the shop 7 times out of the 10 months I have had it. Frankly now I don't trust the bike, I am looking at selling it or maybe good fortune will come to me too. Glad to hear yours turned out for the better. |

Wes I read about your problems in another post and I think your bike is a perfect example of a bike that should be replaced by the dealer. Hopefully before you end up hating buells and selling the bike to someone who experiences the same headaches and ends up disliking buells. |

yeah i love my bike, just a little frustrated cause it seems like it is always in the shop. i think i got a good bike with a lot of bad parts on it. hopefully things will work out where mine can get replaced so i can continue to enjoy the freedom of riding. i would recomend a buell to anyone, i heard a lot of bad about them before i purchased mine but when mine is running i think nothing compares to it, so please don't think i am bashing them, just a little upset with this one being in the shop all the time. |

Tenaciousb - Great story with an even better ending! Wesbone - I feel your pain. My bike finally got fixed after being in the shop for 3+ weeks. I've been riding it all over the place... just like before. But I have to admit, I'm still nervous about it blowing the IGN fuse. No matter. I'm just a phone call away from assistance. Maybe finding a sympathetic ear (dealer) to your plight would be the best approach? Is your dealer inclined to contacting the factory for "heavy" assistance? A friend of mine works at an HD/Buell dealership... and they took in a "troublesome" Buell and gave the customer a new bike. They have been working on the bike, on-and-off for over 4 months and have not found the problem... and these are "dyed-in-the-wool" Buell people. It just shows that sometimes, even new, with the latest technology and building techniques, a mechanical device made by men will not work as designed.
