Can anyone tell me (Kevin?)if the EPA compliance lettering is retained on the bottom of the Drummer. I'm in a a weird situation having been charged ($151) for having a non-compliance pipe (Buell race) on the bike. The pipe actually states "For racing Use Only" and as a consequence I have no grounds to fight the ticket. Before any legal types jump in...this is in the province of Quebec; their laws are weird. I don't live in the province but need to drive through it. If I get pulled again, they can impound the bike. |

Since the Drummer is louder than the Buell pipe, if you got pulled for noise, you'll get pulled again. |

I realize that the Drummer is louder; that's not the issue. They don't test for sound but look only for a compliance label. Does Kevin retain the compliance stamping on the Drummer? |

Jon_s, the labeling is left intact, and if you ask I will make you a twin chamber Drummer and it will be quieter than normal.....you can fly lower on the radar with the stealth Drummer.... Kevin www.kdfab.com |

Kevin, that sounds interesting. When you say quieter than normal, I assume that you are refering to the regular Drummer. Would you want my original pipe (with exhaust valve) or the race pipe as a core? What am I looking at in terms of $$$ and turn around time. I might ride out the season (avoiding Quebec) and take care of this in the late fall. |

Well, it you sent him the race pipe it would still have the "For race use only" on it. |

Thank God I live in Hawaii...only problem I would have with a loud pipe is the neighbors. |

Hey Jon, I live in BC and I had Kevin do up a pipe for me last month. Sounds nice, not too loud. Also, Keving left the "Drummer" badges off for me so it looks stock. |

Jon, Quieter than the Drummer original, let me know when you are interested and I'll build one and we can swap out....I can leave the badge off and it will look relatively stock appearing..... Kevin www.kdfab.com |

Same cost...$400 It's an extra step and a few more materials but it's an option if need be... Kevin www.kdfab.com |

that's a very interesting option. I have ridden off-road for many years and realize how detrimental loud exhausts are to motorcyclists rights to ride. should i stumble on $400 i'd hit you up. |

I think really loud bikes also hurt the street scene. Kevin has the XBs dialed in very well, so you will basically be getting a custom quieter unit, with the same performance, at a very reasonable price. |

Kevin old buddy, you are the man. I ask you guys, what other muffler manufacturer out there will "make it your way"? (Message edited by jerseyguy on August 19, 2005) |

Phantom, The TFI settings for the 2 are almost the same so I would say performance is relatively equal....the quiet Drummer you refer to is the regular and it's not all that quiet....I can make a twin chamber Drummer that is quieter than the regular Drummer without changing the performance, just canceling more noise resonation....hope this helps explain.... I have the twin chamber Drummer. Previously, I had the Race muffler installed. I was not satisfied with the low end torque loss, and the reduced drivability with the Race muffler. So, I started my quest to find an exhaust system that would return the low end torque and most importantly maintain drivability over the entire rpm range. Well, after reviewing many articles on several different mufflers, and so on, I decided to give Kevin a call. After quizzing Kevin a bit about the Drummer and several other topics, I asked if it was possible to make a Drummer no louder than the Race muffler, he said he could. The twin chamber Drummer has been on my bike for about 2 months, and it (imho) performs far superior than the race muffler. It has returned the low end torque, retained the high end pull, maintained drivability, and is quieter than the Race muffler. The twin chamber Drummer has a unique sound, a deeper tone than the Race Muffler. |
