You'll be turning from 78 onto 287 about 6 miles from my house, in case you run out of beer or anything. BTW: You'd be much better off not getting onto 78 from 81 - take 81 all the way up to Scranton, jump on 84 and take that to the Thruway (87). Or, you could even take 81 all the way up to Binghampton, then take 88 to Albany. 78 has contstruction for about 10 miles getting into Allentown, morning rush heading east into NJ is stop and go all the way to 287, and 287 is a mess all the way up past 80 morning and evening. You'd be better off avoiding that area. |

88 is a nice scenic road...they have been working on it all summer..they smoothed out a lot of the bad parts between albany an oneonta....can;t remember how the ride is from binghampton..traffic has been pretty thick on the thruway lately...just make sure you aren't heading south on a sunday.....last weekend it was backed up for hrs...where are you going to be in albany??.....i could swing by |

88 is smooth as silk between Binghampton and Oneonta. 81 is a lot better, too, between Indiantown Gap and Hazleton. For superslab there are some nice diving and climbing sweepers on it. |

I like to stay off the Interstates and enjoying seeing some of the sites. Not quite as fast, but for me more enjoyable and this truly is a great Country with much to see. For what it is worth, coming back from CT to SC I took the following. I list it in reverse order so it is going from South to North so you can compare it to your route for comparison - Blue Ridge Parkway - Skyline Drive - Highway 340 to Fredrick - Highway 15 thru Gettysburg (great place to visit...the Battlefield is awesome) - Interstate 81 in Harrrisburg - Hwy 209 Hwy 209 continues up to Kingston and Interstate 87 North to Albany |
