So there I'am in the parking lot with the bike running kick stand down and the gearbox in neutral. I hop off the bike to check a tire which I think is low and sure enough I see the bike rolling forward lucky enough im close enough to catch the bike and lay it down gently on the ground before any damage happens to the frame or paint. The parking lot was pretty level and I don't understand why this kickstand will not lock in place like my old sportster kickstand. I picked the bike up and noticed no dents in the frame or scratches thank god. However it did bust one of the turn signals and my clutch lever feels real sloppy now almost like the lever broke alot of the fall and bent it. Once I picked the bike up I set the kickstand down and tried rolling it forward to see if the kick stand would just close back up and sure enough it did. Aren't these kick stands suppose to lock when the bikes weight is on them? I'm pretty upset about this cause my HD Sportster kick stand locks in place and even if you move it forward it will not retract on you. Is there an aftermarket kick stand I can purchase? How much is a new clutch lever and turn signal gonna set me back. Thanks (Message edited by danxb9r on August 10, 2005) |

You were lucky enough to get an '03 model I take it. The '04 and later "lock". |

Check with your dealer to see if they will replace the kickstand with a newer one. I always park my '03 XB in 1st gear to avoid the rolling. I too am spoiled by an HD with locking stand. |

Yes my bike is a 03'. This is unacceptable/dangerous for Buell to make a kickstand like this, guess I'll call Dave and see what the 04' "lock" kickstands run plus frame pucks. |

Just called and my dealer first said they never heard of a recall for the kickstand so i called another dealer and he ran the VIN and didn't find any notices. |

Dan, This is what you need to ask about. http://www.badweatherbikers.com/buell/messages/32777/buellpg1.pdf I have found it better to call Buell customer service directly rather than ask my dealer if my bike is included in these. Just FYI. The number is 1-414-343-8400 (Message edited by captainplanet on August 10, 2005) |

Dan, You can also grind off about 1/4 inch of the side stand stop and it will cure the problem as well. |

Some 2000 or so early '03 models had this problem. There is a recall on these stands. There is also a service bullitin on the wheel bearings, check that those have been upgraded also. Sounds like a dealer who is not paying attention. |
