went out for a spin today came to a light and I noticed that my bike (xb12r 05) was shaking more than usual or so I think, so I start looking around and saw some of the rubber from the front motor mount rubbed away and forming little rubber balls on the top, so I'm just wondering if this is normal to have the front motor mount warring away (the rubber part) thanks in advance. Yeah. Mine did it. It's an easy and fairly inexpensive fix, too. on edit: Let me say the factory installed isolator wore out. The OEM replacement part I installed is still fine. Over 7,000 miles on the replacement and no problems. (Message edited by Bbstacker on August 07, 2005) |

How weird, I'm having the exact same thing happening. Drove me nuts yesterday and today. Lots of vibes are being transmitted through bars and pegs and feels generally rougher than normal, feels like the vibes are centralized towards the front. I've got those little balls forming on the front mount as well, does that thing wear out after only 3200 miles?? Bbstacker, what's involved in the replacement? I don't have my manual here with me but I'd let the dealer do it under warranty anyway if thats the issue. (Message edited by typeone on August 07, 2005) |

It was about 3K miles when mine went bad too. All you need...other than the part...is a 3/8" allen wrench, 1" open-end wrench (the thinner the better) to hold the insert if it doesn't want to easily break free, and a jack to put under the exhaust to support the engine while the isolator is removed. Takes about 30-45 mins start to finish. Contact Dave S. for the part. |

Again I've had no problems with the replacement part. |

mine wore out 2, the part goes for between 50 and 60 buxs, kinda stupid that this thing wears out so quick...and its NOT covered under the extended warranty...LoL |

man, every time I go to ride I have something like this to fix. not too happy this week with my XB. ugh. again, i dont have my manual in front of me so pardon the question... do these mounts come loose at all? can i check to see if its properly snug? or do they just go bad? bike isn't here with me to check into it. is every one doing wheelies for this to happen or is it just me? and Dave s do I have to go through my dealer ship for the part if covered under warranty? and pay no attention to the wheeling part for warranty reasons |

no wheelies here, just regular hard riding. |

Lots of wheelies and lots of hard riding with 18K miles and no failure. Makes you wonder if there were some bad parts out there. |

No wheelies here. You may be onto something, Xbolt. Both my sister and her husband have been problem-free in this area. But, hey $50 for what seems to be a one-time (or at least very infrequent) fix ain't all that bad. |

sorry, don't mean to hijack this thread - but does the Ulysses also use isolators for the engine mounts? |

Yes, but they are changed or improved. |

I think they are tougher for off road use |

OK, so I snapped a few shots of my front isolator and compared it to a few posts in the archives like this one and this one I think my isolator is shot and would explain the new vibes that appeared last week or so. crazy annoying on my last ride. I remember moving the bike while it was on the sidestand and seeing what appeared to be a lot of play in the isolator but i ignored it, thought it might be 'normal'. now its looking worse and those little balls are forming on the bottom. the images of good ones have a nice space at the bottom too, mine just sits almost all the way down. what do you guys think? looks like toast, no? here's what mine looks like after only 3200 miles ...

I was thinking the "melting" thing too. I would imagine it would take alot of heat to actually "melt" the rubber. Unless you managed to get some kind of chemical in there(not likely) which may erode the rubber bits?????? $.02 p.s. Gasoline might do that) (Message edited by tank_bueller on August 10, 2005) |

I've read in the archives that small 'balls' of rubber would form, thats what i'm wondering if that 'melting' stuff is like what others have seen. I definitely haven't spilled any chemicals or gas down there. |

thanks, guys. that was my feeling too... got a hold of my shop earlier, they said not to ride it much and get it in asap. bringing her in first thing tomorrow. it'll take a day to get the new isolator. (Message edited by typeone on August 10, 2005) |

well, bike is with the dealer for isolator replacement. its going to take a week + to get the part then install. ugh. I'll dig up this post in a few weeks and let you guys know if my vibe issues disappeared. fingers x'd they do. I was also thinking on the way to the dealer that i bet this is the root of my 'loose feeling' front end. i had them check the steering head last service but said it was totally good and snug. when going over bumps it feels like the front is loose somewhere, could be the motor contacting the bottom of the isolator bolt. not sure but it does make sense now that i think about it. we'll see. |

Mine went like that too at about 5000 miles. Stone Mountain HD/Buell did it in less than a week under warranty. |
