Ok guys, the question is how much horsepower can you get reliably from an xb12 engine (rwhp) without using the race license only ECM? I'm talking about with phase 3 heads, different cylinders, possibly big-bore or short stroke 1200, cams, lighter crank, etc. It has to still be streetable and fun though. I do not expect this to be cheap either.

I'm trying to decide where I want to go in about 6 months (I may defect to Ducati; ).

As a last thought, maybe someone from BMC can at least hint if there might be some addition hp next year (please).

My initial guess would be that you could probably get about 115-120 RWHP with no more maintenance than a Duck... LOTS more torque though : ). Be careful : ).

I've seen that TechnoResearch has a utility for reprogramming the ECM. I don't know if this would be cheaper than the License only ECM, but it my add a few more HP or give you more options.

That's for a Harley. Not a Buell.

That said... Technoresearch does make a scan tool that's capable of resetting the AFV and TPS.

They can be bought through Dave in Appleton or American Sport Bike (and probably some of the other sponsors, but I don't know).

I saw this when I was looking around.

They pushed an XB9 up to 88" (1450cc?) and it put 117hp to the pavement. That kit requires the cases be bored to accept the cylinders though.

The DDFI is the big issue, but with a PC-III or Techlusion EFI augmentation module you might be able to support 120 RWHP. That is very doable with an 88" kit. If it were me, I'd concentrate more on beefing up the low and midrange than setting a peak HP target.

My 1250cc Cyclone just barely makes 100RWHP at 6,800 rpm, but at just 3K rpm it is already making 45RWHP, over 60RWHP at 3.7K rpm, and over 80RWHP at 4.8K rmp. Just a 1250cc kit some cams and stage-2 headwork.

I guess what I'm saying is that you really need to think about what kind of riding you do. Will you be revving to the limit a lot or just occasionally? Would you prefer ten more HP at 3K rpm instead of ten more at the rev limit? Do you want to sacrifice mid-range to make more peak HP?

For me, I'll take the low and mid-range power over peak HP any day. It is where I most often run the bike.

Same here. I'll be going for 88" tuned for 2500-5000. If I get the XB9 ECM to not grenade my engine I may go for 2700-6500.

Of course, in a perfect world I'd have them tune it for 700-7000...

Check into the CM 580 cams then. They rock for the big low end and midrange. And they do okay through 6 grand too. Very, very doubtful that an XB9 ECM will feed that large of a motor.

Didn't Court post recently that Erik had someone re-work the engine in his City Cross? That might be a REALLY good source of info for you.

The 'factory' race FX bikes make around 150bhp+ apparently, and use a lot of stock parts. They also use a lot of exotic parts as well though....Speak to Terry at Hals if you want to know how much it would cost you to have one: )

I agree with Blake.
My 95" Road Glide hits 84ft-lb @ 2500rpm peaks at 91 @ 3500 and drops to 80 @ 5200rpm. As I try to keep in between 2.5 and 5K I'm always in the meat of the torque band, she pulls pretty good for a close to 800lb bike. These numbers are subject to change if I port the heads and add new cams.

Hi,

After you add more displacement, you may be limited by the flow rate of the injectors. I would take a guess that the stockers are most likely around 19 Lb/Hr units. At that flow rate, with bigger than stock displacement, you may not get enough fuel into the engine to make much more than 1.5 HP/CI . (based on personal experience with 5.0 Mustangs which have a very close CI per Cyl ratio. Granted the Buell has much better heads than a Ford 5.0 but with some good heads, FI components and 30 Lb/hr injectors those pesky 5.0's will put out some stupid HP numbers.)

I remember reading somewhere that the XB'x use Ford style. If that's true, hopefully they use late 5.0 type as Ford Motorsport makes high flow rate units up to 150 Lb/Hr for the big inch/nitrous guys. Of course, with additional fuel flow, the stock pump and lines may not keep up. Welcome to the world of hot rodding....
