I'm thinking of getting the Crossroads Zero Degree clip-on style bars for my Lightning. I'd like a more aggressive riding position, but not as far forward as a Firebolt. I'm having trouble visualizing what '2.3" down' will do for the ergos, so does anyone have a photo of these on their bike with a rider? | ||

I'd assume yours are the 7 degree? That's 4" forward, 3" down. That's a little more aggressive than I'm looking for, but I appreciate the pic. Makes me hot just thinking about all that black!  | ||

As far as I know both the zero and the seven degree are the same, only difference is the pitch of the bars, the base is the same.  | ||

I don't have pics, but the zero degree bars were the best investment I've made in the bike. It is 100% better for riding around turns. | ||

Does that mean the bars can be swapped back and forth on the same base? It'd be nice to have the bars all set up with grips on both sets, and then just exchange the bars for commuting vs. weekend fun. Best of both worlds! I wonder if AL is lurking around here somewhere and can answer that? | ||

My riding buds ride cruisers. They'll ride the twisties with me, but we always have to take the longest route to get anywhere so they can sit back and ... well, cruise. During the week I commute to work and back, and the pavement is typical of old downtowns ... uneven and patched. Nice pic in your bio, by the way. | ||

When I bought mine from Dago, I had the same question. These bars and the Street Fighter seat are great for long rides. I do well over two hundred miles in the twisties on the weekends, and commute to work sometimes too. No comfort problems at all. | ||

How tall are you? I'm 6'3" and I think that is the problem with the clip-ons on the Firebolt. I'm a little gun-shy of anything that is going to bring me that far forward because my hands fall asleep and tingle like crazy when I ride a Firebolt. | ||

I'm 6' and they are just plain comfortable for me in all situations. I tried the low dirt bike bars and they did not work nearly as well for me. | ||

I'm Seriously considering the Zero Degree Crossroads bars from Al, at American Sport Bike, as well. I've gone through many posts on this issue and everybody that has them is very happy. Now all I have to do is call Al and order them. | ||

If you get the Crossroads, get a PDF of the instructions emailed to you from Crossroads so you can see the picture detail. | ||

The base plate for the flat and original -7 degree crossroads bars are the same. Only the bars changed. But the change is more than the down angle. They are also shorter by about .7" per side. The original -7 bars were the same as the bars from the tubers, and those were just too wide for the XB, IMHO. When I was coming to a stop, I felt like I was moving between my arms and splaying them outward, instead of having axial loads up my arms. I would have made them a tad narrower yet, but the instrument pod prevents that. I couldn't stand the stock lightning bars, but the 0 degree bars are pretty nice and comfy for distance, especially at speed when you are floating on the air blast. Brad, two of the .jpgs I sent you were of the original xroads instructions, but they were jpg scans, not PDFs. It's the same info, but the pictures are tougher to see, being a scan of a paper print out. I'll get crossroads to send me the PDFs. Al | ||

BTW, the crossroads bars don't bring you as far down and forward as a fireboltstock seating position. If you look at the Firebolt triple tree, the bar clamps are about in the same plane as the triple tree, and at least 1" further forward than the crossroads. The Crossroads 1/2" thick plate is in the plane of the top of the bar saddles, and the bars bolt to the top of of that plate. The top surface of that plate is a full 1.5" above the top surface of the triple tree. So the crossroads bars are at least 1" further back and at least 1.5" higher than the Firebolt bars. This is approximately the same place that the firebolt Helibar triple tree puts the bars, but those run a little narrower than the crossroads. Al | ||

I guess I should have said I cut an inch off each bar, because I didn't like how wide the were either. |
