Started my xb9sx this morning and found: - No Tach/Speedo Sweep and no odomoeter/clock - No turn signals - No tail light. Headlights are fine, the bike started smooth and ran great. And the brake light works fine (both front and rear), but there is no tail-light while running. I suspect something came loose or is shorting behind the windscreen, but before I pull everything apart, I wanted to see if anyone who knows the wiring harness better could steer me in the right direction. (e.g. are these things linked and if so is there a specific place to start looking for a short or ungrounded wire). Thanks y'all. |

Have you messed with the ECM? It is easy for the wire bundle going to it to get out of position and start rubbing on the sharp edge of the battery terminal. The nick can be very small. That may not be your problem, but it is a really easy check. Did you look at the fuses yet? Were any blown? |

Thanks Blastgirl, that was exactly what happened to me. The fuse was blown, and my wiring harness was worn through. Never would have thought to look there. I replaced the fuse, and I'll fix up the wires when I get home tonight. Also, its weird because I searched the archives before posting and didn't find your thread... |

It sounded like the same problem I had just a different wire. Not something most people would look for. I'll be honest I don't know how my husband found it but it doesn't surprise me he did. Hey at least I got to do the pictures. |

Blastgirl & Monorad - how many miles where on your bikes when this happened? so i know to keep an eye out for it on mine. I should just not be so lazy and grind that edge down now |

I bought the bike at the end of April and it happened at about 1800 mi 'ish. For me I only blew the fuse when I was taking a sharp right turn while breaking hard with the turn signal on. The last time the fuse blew was when I was turning into my house which was a big help in figuring out what was going on. I'm glad this is getting more attention here, I didn't think I had the 'only bike' this was happening to. |

Happened to me at 2100 miles, turning all the way right with blinker on. Because I do a lot of slow weaving in city traffic my bars are often slamming back and forth to the stops. When I looked down there I also found that my throttle cable was wearing through. If you mostly drive smooth sweeping turns and don't move your bars much, it might not be an issue. And yes, Buellj79, it was that 10amp fuse that blew. Thanks all! |

Interesting..... I am glad this forum helps each other. I have this problem and kept blowing fuse but couldn't figure it out why until it dawned on me when I noticed it only does when making right turn. But with this forum, it sure saves my time finding the exact location of the source. I better get it checked and resolved it. Thanks for the information. By the way, I believe it should be a recall on this problem as it can pose a problem on the road. Not only the riders but the drivers around you may not be able to see us at night once the fuse blows. |
