My local dealer put a race kit on my 12. I run 93 octane gas and I notice a pinging sound coming from the engine when accelerating hard. It wasn't there before the change. Also, the bike will stall if not given the proper time to warm-up. I've been told this can be due to the TPS but that was supposedly reset by the dealer. What's the deal with resetting the TPS? Is it that complicated that it can be incorrectly set and would this be related to the pinging? |

Unsure of pinging or detonation but I had same problem with stalling untill warm.. I do my own TPS reset and it was my first shot at it. Went back redid it and actually figured out how to do it correctly. Runs better than the day I picked it up. Dont know if thats your problem but I have heard of the TPS being reset wrong so I think I would start there. Keep me posted on this as Mikexlr is having same issue ( without race kit) but I havent had time to do a reset for him. |

You'll need a scan tool. @$285 from Daves?. Its a bit quirky but I got it to work this weekend. Do search you'll find it. Got those instructions off of badweb somewhere. They dont quite corespond to the Technoresearch tool, but they give you an idea of how to do it. (Message edited by madsx on July 31, 2005) |

There's a few 12'S do that but few and far between. First thing to do is let the dealer know what is happening and ask the dealer to check the ignition timing, it has been known to be set a bit out at the factory, and a little too much advance with the race ecm will make it ping. Also run the highest octane fuel you can. Been there, done that. Good luck. |
