OK...just got the scan tool. I wanted to hook it up to my regular ECM before I installed the race ECM just to see how it worked and get the feel of it. At first the dongle checked out. It read Ver. 2.2. Then after a few minutes it disconnected and said it wasnt the right platform. I have Ver. 2.76 of the software from the website and using a serial to usb adapter for connecting to laptop. Do i have the wrong dongle? I checked the web site for someone to contact but was unable to find anything. Might have missed it. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I'd like to get my Drummer w/Race ECM on by this weekend. Thanks Mark- |

serial to USB adaptor didn't work for me. I had to connect directly to the serial port. once I hooked up directly, it was all good. |

i do systems integration for a living and i can almost guarantee that is the serial to usb adapter. inherent problems. if you have to use one the best that i have found is made by hawking technologies. |

Had same problem today... Leave cable hooked up and plugged in to bike... Key on.. reboot computer and restart program. Have to play around a little and you'll get it. Just a reminder though.. when you change from one setting to another you must reconnect each time. Any more questions post back and i'll type out instructions for you... Not the easiest thing to find here using the search ( took me forever). |

Anyone know where you can buy just the dongle by itself? As for the adapter, USB to serial is always a flaky affair. Make sure you use the adapter recommended by the software manufacturer or you are asking for problems. Even then it may not work very well. |

I picked up the Keyspan serial to USB adapter as Technoresearch recommends. It was able to communicate with the bike fine. Now I just need to read the instructions. |

Dongle is very temperamental... some times it doesn't want to play at all, other times it takes it "ball" and goes home or if it's in a good mood it'll play just fine... just keep trying, it'll work at some point... |

Just wanted to say thanks to all who replied. Went out and got some 9pin to 25pin adapters b/c thats the only comm port on this laptop and that was crap too. So, I noticed on my old office desktop that there is a 9pin connection and.... WHALA! Yeah ya have to reconnect when ya change screens but the thing actually works. I was a bit skeptical after having all the connecting issues, but now I dont have to ride 60 mi for a TPS reset that takes 20 min. Thanks DaveS for parts, Kevin for one KICK A$$ exhaust and all who help everyday. You guys make this place what it is...... FRICKIN AWESOME!!! |
