Looking at the new Ulysses got me thinking... I reckon you guys are better placed to answer this question than the guys in the UK because you'll be seeing the actual bikes before we do. I've got an "old style" XB9S which I love to bits - over 12,000 miles last year probably says something. But I really love the new rear end of the Ulysses, especially the luggage pack. I'm not going to trade up for a couple of reasons, mostly because I actually prefer the 984cc motor. Being a girlie I find the 1200 just pulls too hard, especially in town. So... Will it be technically possible to bolt the rear subframe of the Ulysses straight onto the baby bike? I know which end of a spanner (sorry, wrench) is which but I'm not a welder and am not into serious modification of the frame, so if it's not a plug-and-play job it won't get done. Will it be technically possible to bolt the rear subframe of the Ulysses straight onto the baby bike? We'll most likely have to wait and see how different the new frame/tank is from the "old" style. The other XB's are pretty much interchangable. From a manufacturer stand point, it makes sense to keep things the same. They sure have sold a lot of parts because of the "sameness" of the other XB's. |

Just going by the pics and the fact that the frame is indeed a bit different in that area, I'm afraid its not a plug and play job. |

Won't know until I can actually put my hands on one, but it looks like the only differences in the frame are the bolt on foot pegs, that being the case it should work. Other than removing the air inlet through the frame, I doubt any dimensions have changed. |

It is more then just the frame you need, but also the swing arm. To attach the X rear section on to an original XB platform would make an already wheelie happy bike, incredibly more so, enough so that average handling would be adversely affected as the front end will tend to want to float. I am not certain if the subframe bolt spacing at the frame is unchanged, which it very well could be to spread the leverage load out more along the frame. IE: the spacing where the subframe bolts to the main frame, may have larger spacing to make a larger triangulation to keep from stressing those bolts/points too much with the added weight, and the fact the weight is further away from the mounting points. You should also note, the X subframe does not allow for the use of standard XB passenger peg brackets as the passenger pegs are now part of the main peg assembly. |
