I have tried several different bars and have'nt come up with anything I liked. I was looking for something similar to a Firebolt. I cut the stock bars in four pieces. Then I widened them. Brazed that together and welded on the handle part. I also had to reroute the clutch cable.

Wow, I'm impressed. Nice work. Sometimes you must take matters into your own hands.

Very nice. I've been thinking for some time about getting some custom clubman style bars built that were going to look and awful lot like that, with just a little less down angle. The key for any bar to work well on a lightning is the get them going forward before they angle back. Your's do that well. Great job!

Very nice! I believe you could market them as an less expensive alternative to the Crossroads setup.

Very nice job.
Reminds me of what we used to call "clubman's" bars, back in the day. I had a similar deal on my '61 BMW R69S and my Velocette Venom Clubman, which may have come with them, can't remember:-). In Olde English parlance, a "Clubman" was a guy who raced his road bike in local events put on by his local motorcycle club.

Thanks,

I have about 6 hrs in them. Still need to paint them. Nothing hits lock to lock except your fingers. Less down angle would give more clearance.

The bars are a bit of a pain in the to make. I had to push in the bars on the bottom to get clearance around the forks. I also sleeved them. I wanted them to be a little higher. I'm going to make another set or two in case I crash. Also going to look into thicker d.o.m. The stock bars are rolled and welded.

Comfort is not bad. Probably like the Firebolt. I really like the riding position. It feels more aggressive.

I wanted something like the Heli Bar Triple clamp and bar position. It's a little higher and back compared to the Firebolt.

To convert to The Firebolt or Heli setup would require more mods and lots of cash. This cost me just about nothing. I used some wrecked bars that I had to make some pieces and I had some tubing lying around that I used for the sleeves.

Reminds me of Suburban Machinery's handlebar options:

http://www.suburban-machinery.com/hbindex.htm

If we had sufficient interest from XB owners, then we could ask about doing a similar bar for the XB Lightnings. I've seen the Suburban bars on an SV650 - VERY nice work.

**Flash - just spoke with Suburban Machinery owner, who says someone recently bought one of his bars for an XB-S... anyone here?

That is nice looking. I'm not sure those would fit. The bars need to go on the outside of the forks if you want them low like The Heli bars. Not much room between the dash and the forks.

Maybe the guy who bought them will post pics and comments.

Trac95ker, that is awesome. Great job! It looks like theres room to get a socket on the preload adjusters. Wow!

Al, if you start selling clubman bars I will figure out a way to afford them.

That & the billet S pegs.
