Can some describe the process and tools used for chopping the tail section on a XBS. If I understand correctly since it’s a cast it may need some filler. Since I’m thinking of powder coating the tail section and side rails, what filler should be used? Thanks | ||

It's pretty easy if you have the right tools. I used a grinder with a cut off wheel, Hand file, and some sand paper. Use the grinder to cut off the fender. Don't make the cut too close to the tail light. Once you remove the fender, then you can see better. Use the grinder to remove most of the aluminum around the housing and then as you get closer use a hand file and then sand paper. Filler is not needed. | ||

Here is one way of doing it. I used a cut off saw to cut off the cheese grater, then a hand grinder to shape it. Didn't need any filler. Finished with sandpaper. I painted with Krylon rattle can, primer and three coats of color. I baked the part at 200º for a couple of hours between coats: this speeds drying and makes the paint a lot harder.
